The "Bailout" is like when your house gets robbed
Your house gets robbed and the burglar runs off with your computer. A month later, the computer company unveils its new model, and the stolen computer becomes worth less than 1/2 its value. So, the burglar goes to the police and demands that he be allowed to go back to your house and steal your credit card to compensate for the fact that he can't make the money he thought he would by selling your computer on the street. And incredibly, the police--instead of arresting him there on the spot for stealing your computer--GO WITH the BURGLAR to demand your credit card at gunpoint. As they forcibly take your credit card (and you will have to pay whatever the burglar charges on it PLUS the interest) they tell you this will help shore up the value of your current computer.

Madness.

3. I like my analogy better
Your husband just took the money you were saving for the kids' college education and gave it to his alcoholic brother who lost his shirt in four consecutive multi-level marketing schemes -- so he could buy into another one.

4. Except that you have recourse against your husband
A divorce, a bullet in the brain, etc. You have no recourse against a government that is continually paid off by the criminals who help themselves to the public coffers. It's like the many headed hydra: get one of these guys, and 6 others are up an coming to take his place. The only real choice we have is complete revolution and that's not going to happen realistically.

7. how does having your house robbed correlate to how this all started...?
it wasn't breaking&entering/burglary that got the snowball rolling- it was mostly about lack of oversight and rule changes.
