White House: Jobless benefits will not be extended, people should just find jobs.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/08/perino-unemployment/

Billions for Wall Street, but shit sandwiches for the rest of us.

This topic hits home with me. I lost my job of 13 years right after New Year's Day (Happy 2008!) and my former employer fought my unemployment claim for two months before I received a dime. During the first four months after being given the heave-ho, I made do with freelance assignments. In the middle of the year, I had to essentially put freelance and a full-time job hunt aside to deal with family medical emergencies (one being myself, no less). By the time I got my groove back, I had a handful of weeks left on UC before that 13-week extension got tacked on to another Iraq funding bill.

I am, however, one of the few lucky ones. With just 5 weeks left on my extended unemployment, I was hired just down the road from my old place and I start on Monday. But for the millions of others out there, I know how desperate your plight is. And to hear the White House come out with such garbage like they did yesterday just makes me sick. I really hope the Democrats take Perino's press conference and use it to crush the Republicans.

How thoughtless of this White House.

1. So we're going to have roughly a million people with no money to spend 4th quarter
That should do the retail industry (only one we have left) wonders this Christmas.

2. My wife lost hers
only a week after you! She has been trying desparately to find a job since then, and her benefits run out this month. We were so excited to hear about the extension passing. Not that this POS surprises us.

9. They really think people prefer living off the dole
It's been one of the main Republican memes since the last depression. Government welfare programs should be cut because nobody will work if you let them eat while looking for a job. It's why Ronald Reagan tossed out the "welfare queen" image. It's the same damn sham over and over again.
