1. ugh. no thanks, don't need that link.
When I was in Indonesia, I tried some dog. It was gamey and salty. And it was some poor puppy.

Fuck meat.

I went vegetarian last year and it's working out pretty damn good. And I can look myself in the mirror, which helps with shaving.

5. There is an urban legend out here involving manapua
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 02:10 PM by KamaAina
meat-filled buns similar to dim sum. The most popular filling is char siu, barbecued shredded pork -- but every time I have one, my assistant (unlike myself, a true kama'aina or local person) tries to convince me that the filling is cat! :puke:

There is also a regular commenter on the Star-Bulletin message boards who goes by the name "Cat Manapua".

Postscript: While my assistant's friend is away on the mainland, guess who's feeding his cat?? Hint: If he brings manapua to work this week, I'll pass...

edit: italics, plus bonus manapua trivia: The Rock, who cut his wrestling teeth here upon the sacred 'aina years ago, says the one thing that bugs him about the mainland is that he can't get decent manapua there.

7. I don't get the whole "it is gross to eat anything cute" mentality
Why is it ok to eat cows but not ok to eat cats and dogs?

8. "Porch rabbit" was said to have been on Depression-era menus here in the good old U.S. of A.

let us dare to hope that the Bush/Paulson/McCain crash will not lead to a comeback...

For those of you who are too young to remember the Great Depression, "porch-rabbit" was another name for a domesticated cat butchered and sold (to the unwary) as "fresh rabbit" . . . so . . . if the time comes when you notice that the paws are missing from that "fresh rabbit" you're about to purchase (or barter) . . . (**heh**)

Amazing, the stuff you learn here at the mighty DU...

edit: spelling
