Obama mopped the floor with McSame last night. (but...)
McCain is a dangerously unhinged, amoral, prevaricating, grumpy old bigot. (but...)

BUT, why did the reaganite, deregulating, lifelong supply-sider repuke propose the first overtly demand-side solution to the housing/economic crisis?

Why didn't Obama demand that the federal government buy the bad mortgages?

To be fair, the bailout includes the notion of buying some of the bad paper--but it does not require Paulson to do it. Besides, that is not the same as paying off the mortgage and renegotiating it, which is what McSame *seems* to have suggested doing.

1. He supplied no detail. Hard to tell what the hell his deal is.
In any case, if it makes sense on further study, I imagine Barack would pick up on it--he's not one to let the source of a good idea taint it.

2. You haven't been following the news......
In Debate, McCain Touted Mortgage Plan Already Proposed By Obama

It was the first question of the evening: how to turn the economy around and help those ensnared in the housing crisis. And in John McCain's first answer, he bragged about a bold new proposal he would implement as president -- that Obama already fought for in the recently passed bailout bill.

McCain Rips Off Obama Mortgage Purchase Idea

In fact, at a news conference on Sept. 24, Obama said, "we should consider giving the government the authority to purchase mortgages directly instead of simply purchasing mortgage-backed securities."
Days later, in a news release, he said he would "encourage Treasury to study the option of buying individual mortgages like we did successfully in the 1930s."

"Senator Obama has been consistently calling for policies that would buy up mortgages and restructure them so that families can stay in their houses," Obama economic adviser Jason Furman said. "He continues to support that and believes Treasury should use its authority in whatever way it can to bring about that goal, including buying mortgages directly."

that these were different plans.

5. he may have said that, but it certainly didn't end up in the bailout
and he has not announced it as a plan, has not touted it in any of the several speeches I've seen on TV and did not mention it at the debate.

It is not a plan on his website.

 ?

8. Just because McCain said it, doesn't mean you will hear it again
either.

Obama, who McSame calls a Tax and Spend Liberal Democrat, doesn't need to ask the government for another 300 billion dollars right this minute. The 700 billion "rescue plan" unpleasant package just recently approved has to first be allowed to do whatever it might do. To pile on at this time is not wise.

To do so at this point would be ridiculous...which is why McSame's unoriginal proposal will not go anywhere.

It will be something that President Obama will revisit....but for now, it is not a practical proposal; not till the haze clears.

6. Either McCain is a populist at heart
or it's shameless, futile pandering which would go nowhere
