The thread title is, and for that I apologize, a bit misleading.

I had lunch with a client yestrday. We have only very rarely discussed politics. So rarely, in fact, that she didn't recall I was a Democrat. I *do* recall that she's a Repub. Not a crazy person, but a Repub.

At lunch, she got kinda sad and said she was scared about the polls. "They can't be right" she said. McCain can't be that far down.

Can he?

Uh ..... yeah.

I would spending the rest of lunch calmly saying the polls were probably right. McCain was probably going to lose. Palin was a nut job (she agreed with that ... but still wants to vote for McCain .... go figure.) But mostly it was about how Obama actually **would** be a good president.

She is an educated person. I appealed to her (presumably) high regard for thoughtfulness.

Anyway ..... the flip side of anger ..... Repub angst and despair.

1. Hey, after the last 8 years - not to mention Bush Sr. & King Ronnie - I WANT them to have angst
and despair. And hand-wringing. And whining. And crying in their coffee. And trouble sleeping. It's OUR TIME!

3. I am just delighted
that those smug, superior expressions are disappearing and replaced by despair.

I know how they feel. I've lived through 40 years of solid conservative rule from both parties. I am hoping it is finally OVER, although Obama has been no liberal up to now.

Now if they'd only stop acting like they're trying to figure out who farted.

4. Yeah, I know what you mean, but Obama seems to possibly be our best choice in
a long time. It's always a matter of the best choice, not our IDEAL candidate or choice, for those of us on the Left. I'm a mega-environmentalist, for example, and Clinton-Gore certainly weren't 'perfect' on that issue, just better (a LOT better than W, actually) than the Repugs.

2. My take:
The backwash & zealots are in anger mode.

True Conservatives are in angst & despair mode. They realize their party has been hijacked by a group of greedy neocons with the help of a group of wacko zealots & they are alarmed.

5. I'm glad you were able to present the case for Obama.
I may be wrong, but I still think that thinking people, of any party, would reject the idea of putting an elderly hothead and an unqualified airhead in the White House in these troubled times. Sounds like your client at least agrees about the unqualified airhead.
