PARIS, Oct 8 (Reuters) - European stocks look set to tumble on Wednesday,
tracking sharp losses on Wall Street on mounting credit fears, despite hints of
an interest rate cut by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

Spreadbetters are expecting London's FTSE .FTSE to open down 122 to 133
points, or as much as 2.9 percent lower, Frankfurt's DAX .GDAXI to lose 118 to
148 points, or up to 2.8 percent, and Paris's CAC 40 .FCHI to drop 112 to 138
points, or as much as 3.7 percent.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Tuesday cautioned that downside
risks to economic growth had worsened and signalled a readiness to lower
interest rates.

In Europe, British finance minister Alistair Darling is set to announce a
rescue package for the country's banking system that is likely to include a
major injection of capital at around 0600 GMT on Wednesday, a government source
told Reuters.



The FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares has alreday lost
7.9 percent this week, on track to record its worst weekly performance since
mid-2002.
