How can anyone call NPR 'Liberal'????
Granted I like NPR, but they go so far out of their way to avoid bias, its almost like watching Cirque De Soleil.

Seriously - they need to change their motto to "Let's not get too excited now"

1. They very often tell the truth, so they must be liberal.

3. I've been a contributor to NPR for over 25 years -- not this year.
They are getting more and more into that RW crap.

4. They call ABC "liberal" ...

Well, some people call ABC "liberal"

If you mean that they treat subjects with due respect and time ... then we can say that NPR is liberals. If they mean biased towards Democrats, ... that's not true unless you believe that facts and equal time is biased.

I have noticed a trend in years that the Republicans are starting to creep in. Just look at Faux News where NPR commentators are doing double duty there.

Finally, I will point out that the same people call Faux "fair and balanced". Oh well. There is no sense arguing with those people as they are immune from the influences of logic and reason.

6. Thom Hartmann calls NPR 'National Republican Radio.'
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 03:20 PM by tblue
He often states that NPR has a corporate news show, Market Watch, but no labor news show. And they have been silent on so many critical issues. They could have saved our democracy but opted not to.

I remember, back in 2005, I think, NPR's Terry Gross had a chance to interview Mark Crispin Mille regarding his book, “Fooled Again—How the Right Stole the 2004 Election and Why They’ll Steal the Next One, Too (Unless We Stop Them)”. She said it was old news. With that, I lost my stomach for NPR.

I stopped giving money to them and support instead Democracy Now and Nova M.

7. I used to like Democracy Now and Pacifica
But their severe paranoia pains me...it seems like every week the Pacifica foundation is having some inner squabble between evil fascists.

9. And they do not avoid bias. They practice it. Just this morning
they had a clip of Palin lying about Obama's tax plans and said "Palin is challenging Obama on his tax plans," and didn't mention that the clip they played was a lie. (The $42K thing which was debunked ages ago.)

They're not overt like Fox but they bend over backward to give the Republicans the benefit of the doubt and try to present their positions in a favorable light, even if facts favor the opposition.

They've been pushing right of center views for at least the past 5 years.

10. I just accept that nobody's perfect, and...
while commercial broadcasters have to get advertisers, NPR stations have to get member funding, much of it corporate.

Yes, once in a while it seems like they are bending over too far to stay out of the rightwing screed targetting, but they are still the only place on radio that will give a topic up to a full hour, and often as not with experts on both sides.

The last thing I want from them is to see them become another Pacifica or AAR-- espousing a political point of view might be the correct one, but it destroys objectivity.

(And they never get excited, except on "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me." Remember "Schwetti Balls?" Got it down pat.)

11. I stopped listening when WETA DC broke the back of the NPR union, who were all 60's liberals.
Then the corporate headquarters fired a range of voices and forced out Bill Moyers
and others who refused to adopt NPR's new carefully market-tested, slightly
bemused and world-weary tone of voice which all new anchors are explicitly coached
to adopt.
You might say it is part of their "style manual" because it apparently
tests well with upper-middle class listeners who they depend on for ad revenue.

12. It's all just part of Repukes poisoning the well.
If they call every outlet biased and get enough drooling idiots to believe and repeat it, then whenever news comes out that reflects poorly on Repukes people won't believe it because it's coming from "the liberal media".

13. Because any media outlet not named FOX/Talk Radio [w/ the exception of AAR/NovaM] is "liberal"
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 03:42 PM by Double_Talk_Express
It's just how these people think....or don't think.
