Does it bother DUers that the 10,000 people who did this were never brought to justice?

This is a famous picture, taken in 1930, showing two young black men accused of raping a white girl, hanged by a mob of 10,000 white men. The mob took them by force from the county jailhouse. Another black man was saved from lynching by the girl’s uncle who said he was innocent. Even if lynching photos were designed to boost white supremacy, the tortured bodies and grotesquely happy crowds ended up revolting many.

That could be some of our relatives in that photo. Think about it.

1. Probably not
When they see how the RNC use OJ to fight against Obama, they'll have a rethink.
I'm sure some people would have celebrated if OJ was lynched. Afterall they wanted justice - double jeopardy or not. Just set up some charges and it all looks so legal.

By the way I don't give a flying fuck about OJ Simpson - he's a well known asshole. I do hate vindictive setups.

2. Nope. We got here in 1921...don't think they let dagos come to lynchings
Here are some of my relatives:

They were pretty bloodsucking-evil-like-muppets-on-ice by many accounts.

3. What disturbs me more is that I see similar behavior
among the people here (supposedly progressives) screaming" punishment, punishment punishment- no amount is enough- in any given criminal case.

Today, we have OJ- but any other day, it would some other case.

That sort of mob mentality is a pretty ugly part of human nature.

4. Look up the story of Rainey Bethea-- not a lynching, but...
the last "legal" public hanging in the US. I knew a guy who said his uncle kept a piece of Bethea's shirt from that day.

The party over the hanging of a black man, who probably didn't do the rape, was so insane that the nation was disgusted and they stopped public executions.

Truth is, more often than not, "justice" is a sham.
