30. Ill probably sit this one out...
Seems kind of hypocritical for me to enjoy the benefits of being a US citizen (voting) if I don't want much to do with the country at the moment. I left being an American behind for a bit, and this is an American thing to do...its not going to break my heart to abstain. But genuinely, I hope he kills McCain.

You still care. Hell, at this point I hate this damn country and yet, maybe I don't. I'm still here (on this message board and still in the US but actively pursuing moving to BC - I'll have to look you up). Vote already. Ask Nance Greggs or JeffR if they're voting this year even though they've been in Canada far longer than you have. You know the answer.

Seriously, I'd like to see some of our own representatives covered in pig shit and run out of D.C., particularly Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, and Leahy who can't seem to get enough of the demon seed.

Just wait until we get a majority in 2006 2008. They we'll REALLY show 'em. Yeah, that's it. Or maybe we need a super majority. No wait, a super-duper majority. Yeah, that will solve all the problems.

In "What's the Matter With Kansas" Thomas Frank points out that
abortion is the major fuel for Red-State indignance, that a Republican
Congress could have outlawed it, and didn't.

What? And lose all that great indignance?

That was awesome. I'm so glad the Dems took over... With the Republicans in charge they may have increased the number of troops and the amount of money in Iraq. They definitely would have approved the domestic spying and turned a blind eye to executive branch abuses. Hell, they may have even forked over $700 billion dollars worth of inflation right into Bush's lap without so much as a whimper. Yup... these Dems of our are real scrapers.

Rich helping Rich like always. I don't see regulations. Credit card companies are still charging usury/bogus charges. Just recently I got 39.00 charge for "overlimit" fee, but I didn't go over, it was their interest rate that ate up and caused it to go overlimit. I try to pay down, but I can barely make a dent on it. I just don't have enough to make high payment right now. Time is bad.

16. I just had one question. And don't flame me. But. Do you guys really think ...
Do you guys really think you are not "in" the market?
I know a lot of people think, "Oh, I don't own stocks. They're just bailing out 'fat cats' who own stocks.

Well, EVERYBODY is in the stock market. You have car insurance? Your rates are tied to stocks. You have home insurance? life insurance?

You have a pension? 401K? IRA?

Any bank account? I know... FDIC, but where do you think that money comes from? Yep... stock market.

I am a retired public school teacher. My pension is completely connected to the stock market.
Because I didn't pay into Social Security, I decided to save the only way they allow teachers to save and get any breaks -- tax deferred annuity.
Well, tax deferred annuities are held by insurance companies.
And insurance companies put all the money they receive from teachers like me (and other professions) into... the stock market.

So, when you're all hollerin' about 'saving the big fat cats' --- I'm sort of glad (not sure, but sorta) that my pension, car insurance, life insurance, annuities, and IRA are all sort of viable.

And trust me... I'm not fat cat (okay, so I've gained a few pounds over the years, but I have joined Weight Watchers)

23. No... I live on dollars and the salvation of your pension just eviscerated my dollar...
Besides... this isn't going to save your pension... the amount of money that you will make back up in the market will be adjusted downward by the inflation this ignorant stunt will cause. You may make your money back in a few years but it won't be worth a dime when bread is up and milk is up and gas is up and everything you buy is up. You'll be a Peso millionaire in a few weeks... congratulations, you just got suckered by G.W.Bush and Co. one last time. I bet you're still wondering where all the W.M.D.'s must have gone...

The market implosion will affect every last one of us. But, after much research, I came to the conclusion that this won't stop what is happening. It will, at best, delay what's coming. There might actually have been a solution somewhere but this wasn't it. At least, I don't think it was.

The bailout has no direct effect on the stock market (in fact, passage of the bill sent the Dow down 400 pts yesterday). The stock market will likely tank anyway - this was supposed to be about easing credit.

Nobody thinks they're "bailing out fat cats who own stocks". That is your creation. They are, in fact, bailing out the investment banks who sold derivatives which used junk mortgages as collateral, and left a lot of people holding worthless paper.

If someone robs a 7-Eleven, some will blame the police for not providing a secure community atmosphere. Personally, I believe a little of the blame belongs with the robber.

37. Look at it this way
This is the last ditch effort, the dying gasp, the last hurrah for the GOP way of doing bidness. When it fails, and it will, even the wealthy will finally be forced to admit that GOP dogma just doesn't work...at least long enough for real reforms to start to rescue this economy.

You know how slow people who are wedded to their dogma are to realize that dogma is simply not going to work no matter how long they keep doing it over and over again. Well, this is their last chance. Anyone who still clings to the "small government, low taxes, no regulation, invisible hand, trickle down" nonsense after this will be laughed out of a job.

When this fails, the country will officially be tapped out and unless it wants to risk revolution by canceling all military pensions, social security, and other social benefits, it will be forced to return to a progressive tax system of one description or another while putting people back to work to restart demand and the consumer economy.

They had to do this and fail before they would be allowed to try anything else.

There are plenty of people in this world who go without social benefits without being forced into a progressive tax system. What makes them less special than Americans? On the other hand, there are plenty of people who fight for their social benefits, keep them AND expand them. They are called Europeans.

Americans do not fight because it is oh so hippy passe to take to the streets.
