What must happen for McCain to win

JOHN IBBITSON

Globe and Mail Update

October 3, 2008 at 8:33 PM EDT

WASHINGTON, D.C. — With final passage of the Wall Street rescue package, John McCain might finally hope for an end to his long, nightmarish slide in the polls.

Throughout the last half of September, as the panic on Wall Street intensified and Congress struggled to respond, the Republican presidential nominee watched helplessly as an increasing number of voters abandoned his campaign and declared their support for rival Barack Obama.

The latest numbers are almost terminally grim: Both the Rasmussen and Gallup daily tracking polls show Mr. Obama ahead by about six points, and that number seems to be entrenching.

The RealClearPolitics aggregate now shows Mr. Obama leading Mr. McCain in the battleground states of Ohio, Florida, Nevada, Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota and New Hampshire. Mr. McCain holds slim leads in Missouri and Indiana.
U.S. Republican presidential nominee John McCain delivers a statement on the tarmac in Flagstaff, Arizona on Oct. 3 about the passage of the Wall Street bailout bill.

If those numbers hold, Mr. Obama is headed for a landslide.

1. mcPOW in his home state a month before the election.
Translation: He is toast and trying to save face, and prevent a landslide.

His loss already is.

2. I would think the only way he can win it, is to steal it...
How is your newest little furbaby doing? You have to update your sig line rogue's gallery to include your entire family,
present and past.

6. That's what they're thinking
And plenty of people have posted about how the media is trying to say that Palin did well last night- when I heard Biden mopped the floor with her. I've also heard similar nonsense regarding other issues.

The only reason for them to lie like that is to try and steal the election. When Bill Clinton was headed for a landslide, the only people who were upset about it were the 26%ers.

7. I don't put it past them for a moment!
Hopefully Homer Simpson's nightmare won't be OUR nightmare!

Oh, and Atticus Pye is one happy little growing boy! He and Pip play nonstop every morning and evening, and Oberon and Puck are much more relaxed now because Pip isn't pouncing on THEM! Little Atticus is a real lovebug too; he just LOVES to snuggle with mom while I'm using the computer!

His silver is really coming in now. I think that he will indeed end up looking like Scorpio!

5. There is NO WAY ole McStupid gonna win this election...and...he is too dumb to steal it
He has fucked himself into the toilet and has flushed it.

The Death Spiral of his Campaign is in full swing...Palin is Phalin...Polls indicate disaster on the horizon...only thing left is go hunting with Cheney.....

9. Lol! I hope he takes the moose killer with him on that trip!
though he may be too stupid to organize a theft, Rove and Diebold would make it easy for him. Remember: McCain said that he would pull off a "surprise victory".

11. During a McLame speech earlier today
you'd think that Viagra was released yesterday, he was in such a creepy, orgiastic lather about Palin's performance.

It's sad and telling about his campaign's condition that such a modest performance counts for triumph.

12. Has it given them even the slightest bump?
Or have they continued their southward slide?

13. The pundit consensus is no
although it'll be a few days before the next big poll (ABC/CNN/WP/Gallup, etc...).

At best, it's a relief to the RW base that that part of the campaign's over.
