They generally connect it through a person's clothing, to a battery/transmitter pack that they hook to their belt/skirt on their rear. Sometimes people think it might mess their clothing, or they are just prudish, so if, as in Palin's case, they run it up her collar, down her back. Maybe it wasn't secured well, because whoever did it didn't want to get cooties from touching her. Then again, maybe Tawd wouldn't let anyone touch her. Either way, it's not any hidden earpiece, it's a mic wire.

If she didn't want anyone touching her body, what would be the easiest way to get your wire behind her? You run the mic wire along the crease in her collar, down her back, and to the belt pack. If you had too much slack, she moved, or you didn't secure your wire, it could show. Just my observation, after using these sorts of things for 30 years.

Since the three of us in this thread are all audio folk, wouldn't it be a lot simpler to have her take the jacket off, clip the belt pack either on the best or on an inside pocket of the jacket, and then just run it from her back/side over her shoulder - clipping it to the jacket lapel after she put it back on?

I mean, she must be used to the things by now since becoming governor (I've seen her wearing them in a bunch of old videos), and I've never had a pol complain about the few moments it takes to fit one.

My objection to your theory is that if the wire were outside her jacket, a) it would have been a lot more noticeable as it went on and b) you'd have been able to see it on the wide shot of both her and biden where he's in 3/4 and she's almost OTS.
