FDR style.

IMHO, that's the way to jumpstart an economy. Maybe, just maybe, the bailout held the house of cards together for long enough so he can do just that?

I'm just a layman, so I welcome other ideas. Watcha think?

8. He's already mentioned creating jobs
to rebuild roads and bridges and re-tool factories to produce wind turbines, solar panels etc.

IIRC for the renewable energy one he specificed creating 5 million new jobs.

11. What a good way to end the war.
Bring the men home to make our country safe: safe bridges, safe levees, safe flood and hurricane-proof homes.

Put them to work building windmills and installing solar panels.

13. Well the big question is how?
There are many ways that the government can help create jobs.

The government could hire people directly or have policies that help the private sector doing it. Or you can do both by providing tax credits to alternative energy, which develops a new industry in the economy, creating more jobs. If you thinking long term, investing in education and advances in science and technology will create more jobs in the future.

14. For infrastructure, cost plus projects get cash in quick..
if i am making fixed margin, then I add many more people to decrease my timeline for completion. Money hits economy within two weeks. Problem is that there are only a few projects that are "on the shelf" so to speak, and engineering new one's take two-four years minimum to get through design/regulatory structure. Canada, Dubai, UAE, etc. are sucking civil engineers out of the country at staggering rates, as the pay is double, and largely untaxed. No easy fix like WPA or CCC in the 30's.

15. With what money?
There won't be any money to do any of this UNLESS he raises taxes on these very same people who got this "rescue" money. Someone making 20 million a year should pay 10 million of that in taxes. I think we might get some of that money back that way.
