Marianna teacher suspended for 'racially charged' comments about Obama. (He should be fired!!)
A Marianna middle-school teacher has been suspended for 10 days without pay after he wrote a racially charged interpretation of a commonly used phrase in the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama.

While some parents and community activists were outraged by the actions of Greg Howard, Jackson County NAACP officials want to gather more facts before the group considers taking action. But some parents feel Howard should be fired.

Larry Moore, deputy superintendent for the Jackson County School District, said school officials determined Howard wrote an acronym with an explanation on a dry-erase board in his class Sept. 26 at Marianna Middle School.

It said, "C.H.A.N.G.E. — Come Help A (N-word) Get Elected."

He should be F.I.R.E.D.

1. Wow. The N word should be enough to get him fired, but I guess
I can understand getting the full picture first. Maybe he was trying (and failing) to make a point about how others saw the election, rather than how he saw it. I guess that's what I would try to learn before making a decision.

But to me, the N word isn't just a word, or a curse. It's an assault, and even if he was quoting someone else, rather than expressing his own views (just giving him the benefit of a doubt for argument's sake), he should know better than to use the word. That alone should keep him from teaching children again, at least without drastic re-training. Even if he weren't expressing his own opinion, he was attacking part of his class and empowering others in the class to use the word. He shouldn't be in a classroom with kids. And if that was his opinion, and the word was used to express his opinion, the fact that he was only suspended and reassigned is offensive, and disgusting.

Just my take. I grew up in the South during the 70s and 80s, so my tolerance of that word is non-existent.

2. Unless they are watching Alex Haley's ROOTS the n-word is unacceptable.

Any other profession would have been fired but as we all know firing teachers and cops is very difficult.
