Terry McAuliffe to Run for Virginia Governor

Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman and Clinton family confidant, plans to run for Virginia governor, FOX News has learned.

Democratic sources say McAuliffe will formally announce his bid in mid-November.

He has already lined up the backing of former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and sitting Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who is prohibited by law from seeking a second consecutive term.

McAuliffe was Hillary Clinton's national campaign chairman during the Democratic primaries, and was a constant presence on the campaign trail. He was also a frequent surrogate for the former first lady on the media circuit.

The Virginia general election is in 2009.
