Biden was spectacular. Chicken Soup for the Wrecked American Soul.
He brought the FACTS. He brought rationality back to the discussion. He's simply the right person for the job.

4. he was good, but he went to the statistics a few times too often.
he connected best with the bridge to nowhere and the kitchen table stuff, I thought.

he also could have used the "let me repeat that..." thing a time or two less.

6. No those facts are needed to create the perception that
he knows his shit.

13. I think he went a little past proving his expertise
I would have liked more of the kitchen table stuff. Her only asset is the hockey mom bullshit and I thought Biden trumped her strong suit with his middle class pain kitchen table stuff.

17. I don't mean avoid facts. I just think he was slightly more wonky than he should have been.
he was very effective when he got a bit more folksy too.

18. it's the insistance that facts matter (wonkiness) that we've been missing for too long.
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 10:53 PM by nashville_brook
and, Biden certainly doesn't bring the wonk at the expense of seeming cold. far from it.

it's a matter of taste. for me, my eyes glaze over with the spelling bee recitation of talking points that Palin favors. i much prefer an exchange of ideas.

22. I, too, like the ideas, but many voters are not willing to sit through history class
I'm kind of a wonk myself.

But I can't remember now what percentage of the time McCain voted to cut funding for Afghanistan or how many brazillions of dollars of tax cuts McSame gave to corporations.

We need memorable presentation of basic facts.

I think Biden's humanity, not his wonkiness, won him the debate.

16. The 'let me repeat that' was very good - I don't think it was used too often
Anyone who is good at communicating information to people knows that you must repeat the important things you want the listener to hear and REMEMBER more than once.

Joe wanted people to especially listen to/remember those points he called attention to - especially the 'undecided voter' and the 'just tuning into politics for the first time this year' Americans out there.

I thought it was very effective. JOE was very good/effective!

7. Biden got me when he started to tear up when he talked about his family.
I'm sure he won some hearts and minds at that moment.

19. Palin tried hard to ignore that and move on
Poor fool - apparently she didn't know about that horrible accident or the fact that he raised his kids. Moving on without a word was in really bad taste - I agree with Rachel.

Something is wrong with that woman - not only is she narcissistic, she is all about 'Sarah'.

10. When he choked up,
discussing his boys' recovery from that horrendous car accident, I said, "He just won us the election."

I think he humanized all of it in a way that might not yet even register. I think it was almost subliminal and very, very powerful.

Just great.

America is looking for politicians who not only give a shit about the people they represent, but also can relate to them

21. Biden was fantastic.
Frankly, I think he's a better debater than Obama. I didn't have any trouble following what he was saying. He said it clearly and with passion. People just have short attention spans.
