Went to Precinct Judge training last night. Several encouraging things
were said. First registration is way up this year. Also absentee voting is incredible. They find that absentee voting is a good indication of turnout.

Turnout is what we want. The more people vote, the better.

OK, one other issue, buttons, tee shirts promoting a candidate is OK for voters, as long as they do their business and leave just like all other voters are required to do. Any discussion of the pin or shirt is discouraged. This is the opinion of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Your mileage may vary.

1. Wear a jacket with an Obama T-shirt underneath
then take the jacket off as you leave the booth! You've already voted, what are they going to do? Kick you out? WTH!

6. By the time people get there, their minds are made up.

2. Electioneering is not about voter's clothing! It is about people handing out
fliers, or otherwise trying to influence voters' choices, saying "vote for obama", carrying signs, etc. You are allowed to wear whatever you want, UNLESS you are working in the poll in any capacity, even as a journalist or poll monitor or exit poller. Then you may not wear any buttons at all.

4. That's it. Our polling place is in a nursing home. Sometimes the
residents have lost their self censor and will talk about their candidate (s). We try to guide the conversation to something else.

3. Has that changed since 2004? Here in Ga. they made you turn
your shirt insideout of leave the polling place. One couple had their little baby in a stroller and the BABY had a Kerry tshirt on. They told them to turn the baby's shirt inside out or go home! Somehow, I would think if that changed here, it would have been BIG NEWS!

5. Each state has its own laws. It seems there should be some standardization
in the laws.
