...odd...
I was listening to KGO on my way to school this morning, and one of their commercial spots was a recruitment ad for the C.I.A. (and I don't mean the Culinary Institute of America, that has the Graystone School upvally).

Only slightly less than stentorian in presentation, appeal to Liberty and Nation, etc., etc....

I'm sure the C.I.A has to recruit somehow, yet it just seemed...weird...

Anyone else hearing these commercials?

2. The SS is what my exprience is limited to
I've met 3 SS officers in the lat 3 years, which I find odd. One was an entry level SS officer I met in my political science class at a local community college. he was a real asshole, a short guy with an attitude, if you know what I mean? His job was siting on the roofs of court houses every day. he was a republican and thought he knew everything (I hope he failed that class). the other two I recently met in Detroit after an Obama event. They tried to keep it on the down low, but I overheard their conversation in regards to flying to Detroit from the west side of the state. They were saying how surprised they were that it was actually hot in Michigan and that they were amazed at the amount of lakes they saw on the fly over. Well, I knew that obama had been in Grand Rapids that morning and that he also had come into Detroit that morning for an event. It was the weekend of the International Jazz Fest and we were at the Marriott in the Ren Cen meeting a friend that came in from Atlanta to play with one of the bands. So I just put two and two together and came out and asked them if they were Federal Marshalls or SS, and the one guy fessed up. They were on Obama detail. They seemed like really nice guys. We didn't talk politics, just geography, the one said he wouldn't mind living in Michigan, that he thought it was a nice place. They also seemed surprised that there weren't dead bodies in the streets as Detroit has been known in the past as the murder capitol of the world. I guess they thought it was a regular war zone?. But at the time I thought, Wow, What are the chances?

In 2005 my youngest daughter sang at the ceremonial lighting of the National Christmas Tree, on the Mall across from the White House. Bush and laura were there for the ceremony, sitting in a bulletproof clear cubicle of some kind...I could not believe the security involved...sniper teams on rooftops, AFV's in the street, dogs, multiple searches, etc.

Opened my eyes to some things...

Have you eaten in their restaurant?

One of our customers was a student of their pastry chef school... we were painting the remodel of her home, and every morning 3 of us would arrive to find 2 fresh pots of coffee, and a huge platter of her previous days "homework". Man, I LOVED that job...

7. They used to recruit from the colleges
a friend of mine was approached during recruitment week in college, where recruiters from different companies came to talk to the best and brightest of the grads...don't they do this anymore or are they just looking for average intellect now?

8. Actually, I have seen them during our recent recruitment week at university...
the advertisement, however, seemed to require merely a "sense of patriotism" and the ability to pass a lie-detector test.
