Wife of former NH governor & McCain chaiman endorses OBAMA

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The wife of former New Hampshire Gov. Walter Peterson has endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, putting her at odds with her husband, a big supporter of John McCain.

Dorothy Peterson announced her support for Obama on Tuesday, saying Obama is the candidate best prepared to lead the country on everything from women's rights to the war in Iraq.

Her husband, a Republican who served as governor from 1969 to 1973, was honorary chairman of McCain's winning New Hampshire primary campaign and is a member of his New Hampshire leadership team for the general election. He frequently attended McCain's town hall meetings across the state.
