At long last, food labeling law set to take effect

After years of wrangling, so-called “country of origin labeling” is expected to take effect at the end of the month, requiring most food retailers to disclose where many types of meat, produce and other food products come from. The new rules aim to make it easier for regular consumers to know whether their food was imported or not, much like they can find out whether the toys they buy for their children were made domestically or overseas.

BUT what they didn't tell you is that the labeling isn't what you think it's going to be! My husband is a meat cutter at a large SE supermarket chain. He told me about the labels. Meats grown in the USA will say so, but those that are not.....the label reads "Product from Austrailia, Canada or Mexico"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't ya just love THAT???? I told him I thought it was nuts! If you hear about a problem in one of those countries, I guess you just don't buy ANYTHING!

Yes I understand it would take more effort to make sure the correct label was attached to each product, but damn!
