Why? If someone cannot count to 218, they should not have a job. You need 218 votes to pass a bill. If you haven't got em, then you wait till you got em. You wait..Is that too hard to understand?

3. I disagree............The Dems could have come up with 5 or 6 more,
and the thugs could have come up with 7 more..To me, it was both camps that couldn't count. That is the truth as I see it.

4. The bill was Bush's idea - why should the Dems carry the can
on their own?

6. It was a combined responsibility..especially since Bush is so weak..
Still Bush should be able to count to 218...but that is probably too much to ask of him..

15. Pelosi delivered. Bush-McCain-Boehner did not deliver.
Whether you agree with the bailout or not - it is clear that the failure of leadership resides with the Repubs.

If the Repubs don't believe Bush or are happy for the economy to crash simply to preserve their principles - then they should step up and say that.

18. Absolutely right.

The Democrats should have only had to meet them halfway on this one. They provided almost 2/3 of the votes required to pass the bill by voting 60% in favor. The GOP should have owned up and voted 60% of their votes for the bill too. Instead they barely mustered 25% of their votes for the bill. They are gutless, soulless, cretins, more interested in covering their own asses then fixing the problems they've created.

19. Some of the repukes did say it
The omitted the part about being happy enough to let us crash and burn but that's irrelevant since everyone knew what was at stake... and even many repukes emphasized in clear and frightening language what was at stake. But many repukes stood there on the House floor and proudly stated they wouldn't vote for the bill because it went against their ideology and were even personally offended they were asked to pass a bill that did so. Completely sickening.

2. Did Boehner assure Pelosi that he had the votes in the Republican house?
It's Boehner's fault than. Pelosi got more than enough Democrats to vote for it.

5. I don't know if Boehner assured Pelosi..
But if the two couldn't count, and didn't know, then they share the blame. If they couldn't talk to each other, then they share the blame..IF Bush couldn't convince 7 or 8 more, he shares the blame. That is how I see it.

17. You do know there was a Procedural vote a few hours before don't you?
Three hours before the real vote they had a precedural vote where it was 220 for and 198 opposed. Supposedly what changed it was the highly Partisan speech by Peloisi. I thought that speech was completely uncalled for at that particular moment. For an intelligent person that Peloisi is she sure doesn't have a lick of common sense. When you want something from someone you don't tell them what scum they are right before they are going to give you what you want. That was just plain stupid IMO.

10. Roy Blunt is the GOPer whip. He is the one who thought he had 75 votes
And now he is the biggest whiner about Pelosi's speech.

8. Pelosi delivered her votes.
Boner delivered an excuse, one of the most pathetic excuses I've heard in my half-century on Earth.

11. Pelosi could have come up with 5 or 6 more...
All I am saying is that the 3 were responsible together. If the bill was that important, it should have passed. In Illinois, where I live there were 2 votes that should have gone for it that didn't. Did Pelosi know that? That is all I am saying..Your job is to count.

9. Further, if the problem is as bad as it appears..then those whose job
.is to frame the magnitude of the problem share the blame for being incompetent. IF the ship is going down, and the Captain and his two closest aids do not make it clear that the ship is going down, of course the captain is to blame..but leadership is leading and conveying the extent of the problem to all. Hey...the ship has a big hole and is going down. Someone says, no there is no hole. Well...make it clear that the hole is big enough for the ship to go down..

14. Yeah, but once you start explaining that leads to question which you then have to make up
lies to answer or evade and somebody might notice that you want to give a huge check to a bunch of known thieves, and then when you actually hear that idea spoken out loud it doesn't sound nearly as good as it does in your head and then some wise-ass suggests that we might want to look at various plans and lots of numbers, and that leads to more talk and explanations and the next thing you know people are all pissed off at you for making all this happen in the first place...

So... no. No explanations. Just like the NBLB bill itself, there's just no upside to it

12. The "fault" lies with we the people,
We didn't like this bill, and expressed our wishes. Miracle of miracles, with an election a month away, our reps decided to listen to us and follow our wishes. Democracy at work, gotta love it.
