Poll question: Bailout - for or against?
Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 02:07 PM by CrispyQGirl
I'm trying to get a feel for DU & how many are for the bailout & how many are against, but there are so many threads I can hardly keep up with them. Hence, this poll.

Are you for or against the bailout?

1. I'm a photographer and a legal transcriptionist.
I understand ZIP about the economy. Is it okay to have "no firm opinion." I see pluses and minuses on both sides -- the curse of being a Libra.

9. Correct...I'm in the same position so I voted "undecided" but I have a question
I just received this email from "ImpeachBush.com"

Henry Paulson is worth $700 million from his years as CEO of Goldman Sachs. The current CEO of Goldman made $67 million last year alone. The pay of corporate and banking executives today is 275 times greater than the average worker.

Here's the deal and, because I know little to nothing about economics, it may sound very naive...If Henry Paulson and his ilk are, as the email above says "worth 700 million"...Why doesn't HE, along with his billionaire cohorts "bail us out" of the mess?..
Freakin' A..It seems he could give just one SEVENTH of his "worth" and we'd be almost home...I'm sure he's not the only billionaire with this kind of worth..If you could get seven who'd be willing to donate just a fraction of their holdings, it could be solved.

Tell me why I'm wrong.

7. Against THIS bill. In favor of legislation that will adress the issues.
I'm not part of the "let it burn" crowd, but THIS bill was going to stink regardless of how much perfume Dems put on it.

Now it's time to draft something that will work.

15. I think you turned Left when you should have turned Right
anyone looking to "scam" the government (taxpayers) obviously belongs in Freeperville.

10. I am voting against the bailout until there is a much better plan on the table.
I think some of the problems are that is still gives Paulsen far too much power, it not clear how assets will be valued, it doens't discuss the huge cost of maintaining the assets, and their is little equity from what I can see this package for taxpayers.

we can't allow Shock Doctrine techniques in this situation.

I hear we spend $10B a month on funding an occupation in Iraq.

17. And the House also passed another spending bill - 1 trillion for the military -
while everyone was distracted with this. Ending the occupation of Iraq would solve multiple problems.

Just watching the tube, the amount of time spent interviewing the Rapture-fringe Wall Street "gurus" v. interviewing Main Street, NO bailout backers is running at 100-0 right now.

In that alone, had the bill passed "WE" would have felt better today, because the talking heads would be telling us that "WE" are better off.

21. I promise you it will prevent a 1929 crash.
Can't promise there won't be a 2008 or 2009 crash, tho.

18. Three suggestions for a bailout.
1) Nationalization of the banks being bailed out as our European neighbors have done this weekend, or...

2) Giving every citizen $2,700 of that $700,000 to pay down their debt, or...

3) Declaring a bank holiday like FDR did during the depression and going back to the drawing board while the banks were shut down to come to a reasonable solution.
