3. No, Obama came across as presidential
McCain came across as a grumpy chickenshit.

I'm a vicious bastard and I wanted Obama to crush the twins (assuming Grampy still has a pair) that's just me.....

However....

The polls (sic) and analysis (Olbermann's show) afterwards show you are probably correct. I guess I don'tgive the unwashed masses enough credit. I didn't think "looking" presidential would be enough

Still........

I want to see Obama hit him harder

7. I hate to say it but Obama was always on the defensive;
he did not attack McCain but let McCain attack and then reacted.

He should have mentioned Yucca Mountain every time McCain mentioned nuclear power.

9. Yes, the defensive thing bothered me, but I think Obama did a pretty good job and I loved how
he often paired McCain and Bush together. Very important to remind the voters that McCain is really Mc**.

Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:44 PM by glinda
McCain kept drilling that in as message. Obama's team needs to get on task with a REPEATED and HARD HITTING TRUTH about McCain. Saying it over and over andover again.

10. That was only the first debate
Obama played it perfectly. He was presidential, calm, knowledgeable, and took some blows without losing his cool.

Let's see how he handles Gramps in the next one. You might get what you want, now that he has set himself up as the grownup to McCain's ancient history, emotional, story-telling, rambling approach.

11. Well
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:52 PM by LatteLibertine
Senator McCain spent the debate looking at and speaking to the moderator. He looked timid and punked. Senator Obama directly addressed McCain many times and looked at him when answering and while McCain was speaking. McCain came off as weak. I have little faith in him standing up to folks that need to be opposed if he can't even do it well against the fellow he is running against in a polite debate.

I also think Obama had more measured and thoughtful responses. He gave Senator McCain his due with they agreed on issues and gave him proper credit when appropriate. That made him seem more reasonable and intelligent.

Senator Obama won on more levels that one and John McCain also owned himself.

Obama 08.

12. I thought that at first...
but I think that Obama showed mor class, calm, and consistency. Obama looked like he knew what he knew and did not need to attack. I think if he would have attacked McCain, he would have looked frazzled and defensive. He kept his head and kept the focus on the message.

13. No, it's not
Did some of you forget how Obama won the primaries? He let Hillary go on the attack and then calmly and smartly replied to her attacks. Same tactic he's using on McSame.

15. I may be crazy but...
But that sounds more like the same fucking strategy Kerry used to lose against bush.
Class doesn't win
Cut his fucking balls off.
How could Obama talk for 40 minutes about the economy and never mention Rick Davies or Phil Gramm
WTF WTF

17. they both....
....did better than I thought they would, with the definite edge going to Obama....

....but the striking impression/difference I came away with was the energy/age difference....Obama looked like a young, strong, capable man ready to roll up his sleeves to do some hard work and heavy-lifting....

....while johnny on the other hand, looked tired, old and used-up....kicking johnny in the balls would have brought him undo sympathy....

20. I think he missed a couple of tremendous opportunities
When McCain brought up the DNA thing in Montana, Obama should have said that that 18 million dollars might or might not be of some benefit, we don't yet know, but that we can be certain that the 23 billion cash dollars sent to Iraq that subsequently disappeared will certainly never be of benefit to the American taxpayer.

Also I would have liked to have seen Obama, when they were talking about the Wall Street bailout, say that the American taxpayer was being asked to spend the largest amount of money to save financial companies since the S&L failures of the 1980s but that McCain knows more than he about the cause of that.

21. I disagree
I think Obama slammed McShame plenty, without sounding like a raving maniac. How that plays out in the general public I'm not sure but I find it effective.

27. that's naive and rather unperceptive "analysis:". You need to educate yourself.
Obama was introducing himself to millions Coming across as nasty or overly aggressive would have been the mistake- a big one. As flash polls and focus groups demonstrate, McCain's nastiness did him no favors last night.
