About polling..."life without a phone" .."reality for 7% of households in Illinois"
quote the phone company...ATT....in a insert in my phone bill...
..."Low Income Housholds..Senior Citizens, Persons with Disabilities.."..says ATT...

What do you think? Those people never would be polled. And what about the kind of life they lead? I always thought it was about one percent...

4. Seniors? You've got to be kidding. Those folks DO vote
It's amazing when you talk with them. They take it very seriously.

They spend a LOT of time trying to protect their fixed incomes during local, state and federal elections.

6. No, I'm not kidding. Senior citizens have a high turnout rate...
but the poorer you are the lower your turnout rate.

If you are so poor as to not be able to afford a phone, you aren't a high turnout voter.

3. I'm now one of them, and it's
great!

Well..at least I no longer have a phone in my name. Access to a land line in the same house where I live, and carry a cell phone as part of a family plan.

However, for several years I kept my own land line phone, primarily to carry my dial-up connection. But telemarketers were always calling, driving me nuts (even after I signed up for "Do Not Call) esp. when they'd try to sell me a second mortgage on my non-existent real esate. It's SUCH a relief not to have to get those calls anymore!

No, I'm not making fun of the people for whom having no phone is a real hardship. But after Embarq tried for the third time to sock me with an extra $100 reconnection fee, I just dropped the connection. Phone cos. have always enjoyed near-monopoly freedom to screw the consumer; thankfully, that's changed!

7. I would love that deal, but unfortunately for US, a lot of geographically close communities
are LONG DISTANCE for us..

we used to be with ATT, but I finally dropped them..our bill was always $50-ish and we usually used less than 150 minutes a month, but I could NOT get it below that price because of all the add on crap & taxes & fees..and I did NOT even use dial up internet....had NO "extras"..

I could easily do without a phone,., I hate to talk on the phone:)

8. I'm sorry, it was the Senior rate for $10.50/month
with no long distance.

Our cable company offers VOIP phone, and anyone in our area code is considered local, where AT&T considers the same area long distance.

I hate AT&T.

If there's one bad point to VOIP, no power means no phone.
