I honestly have never seen anything quite as pathetic as that Katie Couric interview. The "What a dumbass!" look on Couric's face said it all.

And to piss off a status quo cheerleader like Couric, you've got to be very close to the town idiot.

reaction to her "Alaska close to Russia = major foreign policy creds" responses-- when Couric had to give her a term (as she was infitinely grasping), "mocking" as to the response of the media... She wanted so badly to light into the media, started, and caught herself.

19. No, she knows
That's part of what made the Couric interview so uncomfortable. She's bombing and she knows it.

She's also very thin skinned. Her response to the fact that "I can see Russia from here" has become a national joke was very angry. She seemed genuinely irritated by that, which is big big negative for a politician.

I truly can't see how the GOP wins this election after THAT performance. She is not ready for a middle management position, much less vice president. She is simply unprepared for the post, in the same way I am unprepared to start in left field for the Cubs.

23. A smart person would KNOW they're not qualified to be VP
Palin is a person who doesn't think in terms of being qualified or of intelligence as a factor. I had a supervisor who was like Palin. She managed to get herself promoted through deception, ass kissing and playing the hurt victim when her incompetence showed. She would go to her boss and basically play the child who needs guidance from the big strong boss. She got hired because she simply lied about her abilities and experience and because she knew how to brown nose her boss. Kind of like Palin asking Kissinger to send his wisdom her way while giving him that in-your-face direct stare she has. That stare tends to make the person being looked at feel as if she's totally engaged in them to the exclusion of the rest of the people there. That's why you see men wilt and smile foolishly when she looks at them. She confuses them.

She isn't intelligent as most of us define intelligence. She's cunning and uses her 'assets' to get her jobs, but then she has no clue that she's fucking it all up. She thinks that's normal, if she ever even bothers to think about it. She will get the people under her who are competent to do her job.

41. In my experience, women who are Republicans
Have a rather incurious mindset. They are legion in middle management and they've totally bought into the hierarchical structure of kissing up and kicking down. I know quite a few who were treated badly by their managers and who cried and bewailed that treatment only to be promoted and instantly take on the role of treating their underlings badly. It's as if they think that's the correct way, or the right way. No imagination.

They also don't suffer from being able to be objective and see both sides of any issue. They become The Manager as they've experienced it as underlings. It's just 'the way it is' and the way it will always be because nothing evolves.

Talking to them has made me realize that they've made up their minds and facts just serve to confuse them, so they disregard facts.

editorial by Judith Warner on Palin's interview with Kissinger:

http://warner.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/25/poor-sarah/

"I saw a woman fully aware that she was out of her league, scared out of her wits, hanging on for dear life. I saw this in the sag of her back in her serious black suit, in the position of her hands, crossed modestly atop her knees, and in that “Mad Men”-era updo, ever unchanging, like a good luck charm. . . .her own folded hands, her hopeful, yet sinking posture, her eager-to-please look. Sarah Palin is their — dare I say our? — inner Elle Woods."

52. Absolutely not.
Probably a bad time to ask me, as I just dealt with a particularly aggressive and entirely stupid neighbor over a fence issue yesterday.

This woman is convinced that she is smarter than this "dumb lawyer" she is conning, will quote me the "real" law, and just believe me, not have a clue. She really truly believes she is more wired into the "truth" and knows more about how things really work than I do. And it was a funny, sort of, listening to her spout as it is to watch Palin do the same deal.

I've just had enough discussion with my real world Palin to get a real grasp of how clueless this woman is about her stupidity. There is no cure.

but she doesn't, and yes, I am sure she thinks "they" are doing something bad to her to cause this.

This woman can't find a way to own her failures now that she's hit the big league, because she just doesn't comprehend them. Did you hear the rumor (Politico, I think??) that from inside the McCain camp, as they tried to do mock debates/interviews, they came to the conclusion themselves that she was "clueless"? They said the attempts to cure Palin of her stupidity were "disasterous."

Man, you better duck, these wheels are coming off fast and flying everywhere.

55. She is over-confident.
Naive people never realize how little they know. On top of it, she is extremely provincial. That might be OK if her provincial experience was similar to that of other Americans, if it helped her understand the frustrations of her fellow Americans. But, let's face it, I've never seen a caribou. I've only seen polar bears or even any bears in the zoo. Oil is drilled in California, but the State of California does not give me a check for my share of the royalty payments (assuming California gets royalty payments). I've never been on a snowmobile in my entire life (although I was on a sled as a kid). I have relatives in the midwest who hunt and fish a lot, but here in L.A., you have to drive a long way before you can hunt and the fishing is not what it is in Alaska.

It wouldn't be such a problem except that the eccentricities of her Alaskan lifestyle seem so central to her life. I can't imagine Palin being happy in Kansas, much less D.C. or L.A. She just wouldn't fit in. I think she got carried away with some idea that being VP would be glamorous. It would make her famous. I think she also believes that Jesus wants her to be VP and then president. God forbid is all I can say. She is not just ignorant. She is stupid. But the biggest trap for Democrats is to think that calling her what she is will make ordinary voters reject her. It won't. They will vote their hearts. They don't know much about history or economics or foreign policy either. And it's the ignorance we despise that makes a lot of people feel a kinship with her.

What we need to focus on is her lack of understanding of the reality of the farmer in the midwest, the teacher in Alabama, the plumber in Syracuse, New York. She knows nothing of their lives. She lives in the world of our ancestors much of the time -- the wide-open spaces, not in the America of today. It's that difference in experience that makes her naive and that would make people understand that she is not a good choice for the office.
