1. *raises hand and says, "ME!"*
I do. It's all such a nightmare that I'm beginning to question whether I've died and gone to hell or not.

16. My best friend and I are both sleepless, have been for three days. Although, it's somewhat
comforting to know that when you break out in a cold sweat at 3 a.m. because you think you're living in V for Vendetta, ya got somebody to call.

17. Those don't arrive until part way through the third episode in the trilogy.
We're in the prequel - the lead up to the fascist regime. Then the horror of the fascists. THEN we get V for Vendetta, the masks and the destruction of the regime. It will be grim.

The bailout fiasco, the Palin debacle, the "suspension" of McCain's campaign and the assignment of a 1000's strong Army division to the "Homeland" have me wary to say the least.

8. Link Please
Please provide a link to the actual announcement of this deployment - not a blog saying it was in Army times - a link to an actual source.

15. Check this out...
I have some holdings in an IRA. Not a hell of a lot, BUT IT IS MY ENTIRE LIFE SAVINGS.

I want that money OUT OF THERE.

I want it in my grubby little hands so I can buy gold, silver, and food.

I am only 50 years old, so I can't get it without a 10% penalty PLUS the taxes.

Those horrible horrible motherfuckers.

28. What can people do if there is no actual democratic process? This is the question.
I see so many posts about what people 'believe in'. Oddly in the 20th century the Anarchists, Bolsheviks, Trots, and Social Democrats all 'believed' in the same thing: an egalitarian society free of imperialist sociopathy, where creative people could create things without being slaves. The real place where they differed was "how to get there" and "how to get rid of the fascists/capitalists." Could they be bargained with? Would there need to be a dictatorial coup to make sure the fascists didn't rise up again and subvert the system for their personal gain? What should be done with the petit bourgeois who benefit from collaborating with them? The wealthy art collectors and Ford Foundation liberals? Can they be reasoned with? Can they be brought to do the right thing through education? Must social organization be totally disrupted and then people scatter and go off on their own to farm/build small collectives, etc? (Early anarchists) Or should generic humanity work together to ensure that the wealthy will not reorganize and take over the world again?

Today we really equate the goal of a belief system with the outcome of its application in the 20th century. For example: communists want a bleak totalitarian state and to suppress creativity. This is untrue. The goal of communism is to take over the means of production by force, form an egalitarian society, and THEN watch as the state withers away. What we often call socialists are progressive social democrats: those who believe that the state will wither away or become minimized WITHOUT revolution as reforms are made and humanity is enlightened. This is what many of us are. Many of us define our politics based on the idea that revolution is unrealistic and silly and violence or force cannot solve problems. This is certainly my ideal.

But the problem is this: the capitalists are not getting better. They are getting worse. They are less enlightened. They are more brutal and they have more technological control than 100-200 years ago. The world is becoming more violent and social democracy isn't working.

Here are my questions:

Are we really a 'pluralist democracy with diverse opinions' or are we a one party capitalist authoritarian state?
How can we get all these reforms? "What we need to do is bring back the fairness doctrine. What we need to do is demand single payer health care. Etc." How do we "do" these things? What does it mean to "demand"?

How do you melt a fascist's heart? How do you get him or her to see reason? Where is this power?

6. I don't want to, but I do,,,,,
All of this stuff just blows me away- I feel like I am ready a political fictional novel (that I love!)BUT this is real and something nobody knows how to deal with- that is scary. I sure did not feel more secure listening to our Commander-in-Chief tonight- I wonder how this will play across the country. I thought it was quite inflammatory. I really did a double-take while listening because his message was scaring me- I can't even imagine what it was doing to others!?!?!?!??! Seriously!!! Your thoughts????

You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth."
