That sounds impressive, but I know nothing about how someone gets nominated, and how much of an accomplishment that is (or isn't). Can anyone explain?

1. No Shit, For Real? I Really Got To Dedicate Some Time To Learning More About Him.
Everything I keep hearing about him is positive. It's really making me interested in learning a lot more about him.

5. IMHO Richardson could be a surprise
we'll see how he works his strategy. he does have both domestic and international credentials but I don't think he's much liked by the super lefties (as Skinner put it) - especially the "there should be no such thing as borders" crowd.

2. Anyone who has received the prize may nominate another person...
then the foundation goes through this whole super secret process to determine the winners.

3. That's impressive. Maybe the historical first in '08 will be our first latino nominee?

8. The "doctor" who said Terri Schiavo was not brain dead was also "nominated"...

for the Nobel Prize.

Seems the nomination is only as impressive as the nominator.

11. Did you read that article?
"But Bilirakis is not qualified to make a valid nomination under the Nobel rules."

Your claim is false, and there is probably time for you to edit it.

You aren't a Richardson fan are you?

9. National politicans, senior people in universities, peace prize winners
and a few others can nominate: http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/nominators.html

Note that the foundation itself only reveals nominations after 50 years; the only other people who can have said he was nominated is the nominator themselves. If they haven't given the reasons for repeatedly nominating him, then it's not that impressive - fools do things like nominating Bush.

"Bush and Blair definitely still deserve it," said Jan Simonsen, a right-wing independent member of Norway's parliament who nominated the two for the 2004 prize shortly after the U.S.-led war toppled Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) in April.
...
Lundestad said many people wrongly believed being a "Nobel prize nominee" was itself a kind of honor.

Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic (news - web sites) have made it to the list -- every member of all the world's parliaments, university professors from law to theology, ex-winners and committee members can submit names.

10. He worked to free hostages and prisoners in Burma, Cuba, Iraq, North Korea and the Sudan
apparently has had something to do with some of the nominations.

I doubt Bush, Frist and Hitler ever did anything like that.
