Who Are We?
Tonight I have seen the face of fear. It was attached to the body of a forty-something clerk at a local convenience store. But first a little background.

We are having a spot gas shortage. No reason for it really, but it started when it was thought that Ike might take out the gas supply. Mostly it's been caused by greedy, selfish people hoarding gas... topping their tanks, filling numerous 5 gallon cans, empty water jugs, whatever they have that will hold liquid.

Anyway, I stop into this store for quick bag of cat food, see this clerk, obviously shaken, notice the bags over the pumps and ask: "Get hit by another gas panic attack?" Here his eyes get real wide and he says "Ramming." "They were ramming each others cars! Over a little gas!"

I take my purchase and leave wondering what country I'm in. I especially wonder what happened to gentle, friendly people that used to live in my neighborhood. I don't know these people.

I don't want to.

4. You're right.
But it's usually bubbling below the surface. I much prefer animals to humans.

5. Not true.
There were shortages during WWII - people didn't act like this.

6. people were accepting shortages in the name of Patriotism
tho, they were sacrificing for the greater good.

No such motivation handed down from on high this time around.

13. Yep, happened here in Tallahassee - convenience store clerk told me Friday
That one driver rammed another the day before. Idiots are greedy about their gas so any station that gets any sells it out within hours. A totally artificial shortage caused by greed.

16. My husband filled my truck for me the other day
So now I think I will top it off every couple of days so I don't have to buy much at a time.

Usually, it would take me two or three months to go through a tank since I don't go anywhere except the feed store every other week. But with volunteering for the campaign I am driving into town three times a week. Right now I have a choice - keep volunteering and not donate money to the campaign or stay home and donate. I think I am contributing more value with my time than with the little money I could give so I'm traveling more than usual. It is worth it, though!
