Tucker, Tucker, bow-tied fucker, sez if you don't accept Peter Pace's bigotry...
...then you don't support diversity! If that isn't the most cynical GOP spin I've ever heard, I don't know what is. Here's the exact quote:

"Now, I'm not staying up at night, worrying about what consenting adults do with one another, sexually, but it seems to me Pete Pace has a right to think that homosexual acts are wrong. Why are people jumping all over Pete Pace for his personal views? What about diversity and all that?"

1. It wasn't presented as personal views at first
This general should have known better. Any person who is in a position of authority has to be careful of their speech.

2. Exactly

It came off as official JCS policy.

And needless to say, Pace's "regret" over his remarks is pure bullshit.

7. To suggest that the views of bigots should be accepted, in the name of diversity...
...purposely degrades the very concept of diversity.

Tucker Carlson is a hate-filled GOP worker maggot.

3. I never noticed how much I despise Tucker until this evening...
sure, the Faux bunch is collectively hateful to the point of insignificance (they are a bad cartoon). Wolf wets himself with self importance in his situation room, Scarborough is just too goofy and almost pathetically likeable (and he has to put up with what'shisname, sourpuss former presidential candidate...who is also so disconnected I laugh) - but Tucker - it is that smugness, that whatever you call it - former prep boy, frat boy school yard bully thing - you want to jump through the TV and strangle him!

4. I have had this argument.
I know a conservative who says, in a roundabout way, that liberals are more intolerant than conservatives because of their intolerance of intolerance.

9. It's a "poison pill" argument intended to kill tolerance.
And Tucker's assertion that bigots are a class of people who should be accepted, in the name of diversity, is merely a variation of that argumant.

11. Ok what does that mean in practice?
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 06:00 PM by kenny blankenship
I've heard, now and then in my life, some people express the belief directly or by implication that all black people are immoral. If I don't accept their right to think that way and express themselves publicly about their hatred of black people, does that mean I "don't support diversity"? Seems absurd, doesn't it, if to support diversity I have to back people who hate a demographic group numbering millions of individuals in their right to express their hatred, and put that ahead of my rejection of such hatred. I reject their hatred; on the other hand they reject an entire group of people. These things can't be equal. They don't quite compare the way you want them to, Tucker.

What in practical terms does it mean to accept that bigots have "their right to think that way"? I certainly don't advocate lobotomies for people who have a record of making bigoted statements in public. I suppose I believe in their right to think that way since I don't advocate extirpating the very thoughts they think. On the other hand, I do think they deserve reprimand for public expression of bigotry. But apparently even mild verbal expressions of disapproval is too much.

Does that mean I'm never supposed to express any level of disapproval of people who say things like "Blacks are immoral" or that "Jews are greedy" or "Homosexuals are out to molest children and destroy our country"? If I must tolerate those who are vociferously and publicly intolerant of homosexuals doesn't that mean I have to tolerate in the same way all "communities of intolerance", such as the anti-Semites, the Hispanophobes, the KKK, and the modern Republican Party?

Thanks but, no. I support diversity--just not the kind that aids and encourages supremacist movements.

12. Tolerance, by definition, rejects bigotry...
...just as it rejects any belief which, if acted upon, would harm people. Tucker's assertion is disingenuous on its face and baldly intended to degrade any argument in favor of human diversity.
