I can see the humor going over people's heads and believe the show to be RW leaning

3. There are millions of people who think the soaps are real, . .
so I'm guessing, "yes"...

Probably lots think he's "on their side".. The right is famously irony impaired.

4. Yes, my hubby's friends in Texas think so;
he went on a visit to Tejas, and his Rethuglican friends watch Colbert, completely missing the satire and the O'Really imitation. They said so to him!

No offense to your husband's friends but I often wonder how
some people who are so devoid of judgment can function in the real world.

these are very educated guys - good in terms of company formation, sales, and customer relations - Hubby is the technical/computer guy, though.

All of the good computer guys are on OUR side, IMHO. Thank Spirit!

P.S. These guys just go into a trance whenever 'taxes' are mentioned; for some reason, they believe that Rethuglicans protect their upper-middle-class existence (not true, of course).

13. Colbert goofs on people
and that is just too subtle for the goofees and people who get goofed on in real life. That's what makes him really great, he's under Freeper radar, for the most part. Gullible dummies think he's the antidote to the "commie" The Daily Show.

6. I don't know about now...
...but when his show debuted, I remember there being quote a few "Finally, a comedian on our side" posts on FR and elsewhere. Eventually one of them was sharp enough to figure out they were being made fun of and the word got out.

But still... Every so often you'll see a guest or, more frequently, a congressperson who obviously is not in on the joke. And there was that Tom Delay incident (right around a year ago?).

And you really have to wonder about the correspondents' dinner.

I found it hard to believe myself- but he really did think Colbert was making fun of Democrats from a GOP POV...

18. At first, I thought Stephen Colbert was a right wing freak
I wouldn't watch the show at first, and then someone right here on DU told me it was just the opposite,
and now it's easy to see what he's doing, and I love it.

the further he pulls the RWers in, the greater the impact when they realize (and many of them will, eventually) that he's been spoofing all along.
