Iran deems risk of US attack “very weak”

25 January 2007

TEHERAN - Iran’s top national security official, Ali Larijani, assessed as “very weak” on Thursday the possibility of a pre-emptive US strike on his country’s nuclear facilities.

“The possibility of this is very weak and it’s more a matter of psychological warfare,” the semi-official Mehr news agency quoted Larijani as saying.

“However, Iran is always ready to confront threats.”

Earlier this month, US President George W. Bush ordered a second US aircraft carrier battle group to the Gulf and announced the deployment of Patriot anti-missile missiles to the region.

Washington was the most outspoken champion on the Security Council of its adoption of the first ever UN sanctions against Iran over its refusal to heed calls for a suspension of its uranium enrichment programme.

1. Even though I'm no expert on this...
I believe it. The military industrial complex is making enough $$ as it is. No need to go into Iran.

2. I don't even understand why we in the West are
hyper-ventilating about Dumbya launching another war in Iran. Not gonna happen.

3. You know...
... I remember being asked by one of my bosses whether I thought we would go into Iraq. I remember answering that I didn't think Bush was dumb enough to invade Iraq.

Lesson I learned: Unfortunately with this administration, anything can happen. :(

4. Yes, but...
It didn't make much sense for us to go into Iraq, either (IMO). And Bush has shown that a) there are no limits to his arrogance and stupidity, and b) he won't listen to anybody who disagrees with him, so c) he pretty much does what he damn well wants. I'm not going to write the possibility of a war with Iran off just yet. (Mind you, I really, really hope it doesn't happen...but I wouldn't put it past the Shrub.) :(
