Edwards Calls For Attorney General Gonzales To Resign
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 02:30 PM by waiting for hope
Aaron Myers in News
3/13/2007 at 3:12 PM EST

Senator John Edwards released the following statement calling for the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales following today's report of White House involvement in the recent firings of federal prosecutors.

"Today's news is only the latest and most disturbing sign of the politicization of justice under President Bush. From the abuse of investigative authority under the Patriot Act to the unconstitutional imprisonment of the Guantanamo Bay detainees and illegal torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib and Bagram Air Force Base, this president has consistently shown contempt for the rule of law.

"Attorney General Alberto Gonzales betrayed his public trust by playing politics when his job is to enforce and uphold the law. By violating that trust, he's done a great disservice to his office. If White House officials ordered this purge, he should have refused them. If they insisted, he should have resigned in protest. Attorney General Gonzales should certainly resign now."

2. Good start, but there's more evidence that something similar should be said to the executive branch.
When is someone going to tell bush and cheney to step the fuck down?

Obmama, Richardson & certainly Hill probably need to take note.

11. By the time the 2008 election gets here the country may be looking for another Jimmy Carter...
The backlash against Watergate put Carter in Office, and Edwards would most likely be the choice to disaffected Independents and Republicans.

There will likely be a shift away from the career politicians once all the corruption is exposed.

12. The comments coming out of Iowa
Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 02:33 PM by waiting for hope
recently were that he is "genuine" and his hearth side approach to meeting the people is striking a chord with voters. I have always believed him to be honest and genuine and see him as a new direction and new beginning for this country.

23. Corruption won't be fully exposed until you have a president that will open the books
on the Bush administration (Pappy and Jr.) If not Gore, Obama or Clark, Hopefully Edwards may be the only one.

10. Summed up more than just USAs fired, and hit multitude of wrongs Gonzo involved in...
It is clear that Gonzales is hanging on for some undisclosed reason. Resignation would be the best for everyone concerned if the facts are as they appear today.

But obviously there is more to come....

15. He is eating the other Dem candidates' lunches.
No doubt about it. While the rest of them seem to be huddling with their consultants, Edwards comes out of the gate first on this one - just like he did with the Nevada debate and Fox Noise.

Everybody else better wake up. Edwards is making them look bad.

21. Excellent statement by Edwards. And the office Gonzales has done
damage to is OUR office.

The people's office.

It's not his.

29. If he keeps this up...
Edwards will have an excellent shot at the nomination IMO.

Edwards has a lot of cred in the corrupted legal arena. His stock went up for me when (I think it was Matthews) asked "Should Scooter Libby be pardoned?" Edwards answered firmly and simply "No."

:applause:

30. Why afford the dignity of resignation?
This ***hole should be ignominiously FIRED

He should feel the disgust of the entire country for his crimes, made worse by the fact he knows the laws he's broken.

When the RNC stupidly sent me a begging letter a few years ago, I replied with a letter of my own:

The only thing the RNC will ever get out of me is my utter contempt until it shows it understands what "All men are equal" really means.

I've never had another peep from them and don't expect to.

They earn my contempt every day.
