Ari Fleischer: Bush is a liability to conservatives
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 05:26 PM by marmar
from ThinkProgress:

Fleischer: Bush is a liability to conservatives.»

Bloomberg writes, “There is an invisible man in the 2008 election: the president of the United States. Republican candidates have all but shunned him, save those who need him to help raise money.” Even former Bush spokesman, Ari Fleischer, admitted that the President’s presence would “hurt the party and hurt John McCain.” Some examples of Republican candidates’ reactions to Bush:

— “There’s nothing in the works with Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi. ‘Senator Wicker is running his own race,’ campaign spokesman Ryan Annison said.”

– “There are lots of places he’s not likely to go, like the Hampton Roads region in southeast Virginia. ‘We haven’t even discussed it,’ said Corry Bliss, campaign manager for Virginia U.S. Representative Thelma Drake, when asked about a Bush visit. ‘This campaign is about next year and the future.‘”

– “Asked whether the nominee would be appearing with President Bush this fall, McCain’s campaign chief Rick Davis gave an emphatic no, saying ‘we’ve turned that page.’”

1. But, but, but.............
He did everything the conservatives told him to do.

How can they turn on him like this?

Poor Fuckface. Used and thrown away like the cheap handjob that he is.

2. They can run but they can't hide. They supported Bush. They share his failures.
I hope that the Democratic Party doesn't let the Republicans get away with this.

If I were running for office against a Republican, I would use the phrase "A George W. Bush Republican" every chance I got.

I wish Obama would do this. "John McCain - a George W. Bush Republican." "Sarah Palin - a George W. Bush Republican."

In my state, the appalling Liddy Dole is running for reelection. Her opponent is using very effective negative ads that note the number of times Dole voted with Bush.

3. You know, before Bush 1 left office so-called "real" conservatives called Bush 1 a liberal
in an attempt to explain why and how Bush 1 wasn't really one of them and therefore the "real" conservatives shouldn't be blamed (or connected with...and do please forget that we supported him always) for Bush 1

Just saying...
