1. "into the black" compared to WHAT?

Todays open?

They are going to have to try hard to prevent it from going below the close of the last day of Clinton's Presidency!!!

3. Why is oil dropping?
They're trying to save the DOW. What happens when it doesn't work?

18. Simple, they are now taking the coming depression
and resultant lack of global demand into account.

21. lolololol
I am so sick of this shit. People STILL won't accept reality. The rich play with investment vehicles like a roulette wheel. There was an oil bubble that had very little to do with "global demand". Now that we're looking at a real global crash, they're pulling their money from that vehicle to shore up the financials. At some point the money will break again, and they'll go to gold or interest earning vehicles, and then into whatever renewable energy gets "hot". It's a big fucking game to them. Good god stop believing all this supply/demand crap because it's mostly shit.

24. Believe what you want...
and I'm sure that there is a lot of game playing going on.

But the price increase has caused us to reduce demand, and there is a coming recession / depression that will reduce demand further. so the game players have to cover their positions... which accelerates the price drop. They made a ton of money out of it. Sort of makes up for some of the loses in the mortgage security game... and then they take the bailout money on top of that. And laugh at the rest of us.

25. As long as you continue to belive
their phony economic lies, we will continue to get into these messes. Our economy stopped relying on the basics of production a very long time ago. It's Capitalism. The US supplies the Capital and the only way to make real money is with a huge return on that Capital. That doesn't happen because of production anymore. It happens because of Bubbles. One Bubble after another. Round and round we go.

27. Good point.

so what you are saying is that market forces / fundamentals have little to no impact on the price of X (stocks, oil, housing, etc).

I have to give that some thought.

5. Is it possible the market's being deliberately sabotaged?
One reason could be to minipulate the election, the other foreign investors that have taken advantage of the dropping dollar.

15. I notice on CNN they stop posting the stock market numbers on bad days
On the bottom right hand side of the screen, CNN always gives the ET and PT times of day, followed by the Dow Jones, Nasdaq and SP500 numbers every damned day...except on those days when the stock market takes a beating. Like clockwork, they remove those figures and only show the time of day when the market takes a tumble.

Anyone know why?

23. It stayed up there for only seconds - while they were talking about it
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 03:42 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
But day in, day out, year after year, they have the stock numbers as a fixture in the lower right hand corner ... except on those rare days when the DOW takes a big hit. I'm still wondering why. Maybe it's to keep viewers watching through the commercials until they have a segment covering the story of the crashing market?
