Desperate McCain Losing More Ground to Obama

Reuters/Zogby: Obama Takes Back Lead

A new Reuters/Zogby poll shows Sen. Barack Obama regaining his national lead over Sen. John McCain, 47% to 45%.

The same poll just before the political conventions gave McCain a five point lead.

Obama gained ground in the last month among independent and women voters and on the question of who could best manage the faltering U.S. economy. (Trifecta!)

1. I don't believe we've ever lost the lead...I really think these polls
are crappy. I'm not sure which one's to trust.

16. Republicans are the only ones picking up the phone...
and desperate for their opinions to matter to anyone, even a stranger, so nearly half of them are voting for Obama too.

4. Polls can be skewed.
I don't trust them, but feel better when we are ahead. I also try to keep it in perspective when we are not.

5. I just felt like saying it
. . .because we've eaten so many stories about some 'surge' McCain supposedly has had.

13. Oh, don't take what I said wrong.
I enjoy seeing that Obama is ahead in the polls, and if he was way ahead I would probably be really happy. And I too am tired of being sold the idea that cain and pain are so likable and popular with the 'working class'. It is just another attempt of the MSM putting the candidates in pigeon holes and trying to make us believe it and vote accordingly. That is why I made the comment about the skewing of the polls.

I keep an optimistic outlook because I only watch KO, TDS, and Colbert for my news and I only believe the polls when we are ahead. ;)

9. Watching the daily polls is like
checking on your 401K every hour. It will drive you crazy and isn't very helpful at all.

10. I don't disagree
. . . but it's still good for those of us who have to tolerate these stories about some McCain 'surge' to see these reports, no matter how much they can be intellectualized away.

19. So a slim Obama lead in Zogby is actually a significant one then.
If you take the Republican leaning out of it by, say, subtracting one from McCain, and adding 3 to Obama.

Thus 47% Obama and 45% McCain actually is 50% Obama, 44% McCain.

12. Are polls still dependant on land-line responders only?
Because a hefty demographic has discarded land-lines altogether and use cell phones exclusively.

The kind of person who answers a land-line phone in the middle of the afternoon, is NOT representing every voting demographic.

17. That is likely
while I have a landline, I almost never answer it if I don't recognize the number. Despite the "do not call" list, I get an alarming number of solicitatins and survey takers. It's almost enough for me to cancel the line but I have a (sigh) teenager.

18. The bad economic news is going to fuck McCain.
His "9/11 commision" quote is exceptionally ripe for the picking.
