Oy Fey Tina’s riff miffs McCain camp
Source: The Boston Herald

Perhaps White House wannabes John and Cindy McCain shouldn’t watch television or appear on it!

Because the Arizona senator’s camp is steaming over Tina Fey’s impersonation of GOP veep candidate Sarah Palin on the most-watched season premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” and Mrs. McCain is miffed over the couple’s treatment on “The View.”

“The portrait was very dismissive of the substance of Sarah Palin, and so in that sense, they were defining Hillary Clinton (played by Amy Poehler) as very substantive and Sarah Palin as totally superficial,” former Hewlett Packard chairwoman Carly Fiorina, now a McCain adviser, told MSNBC.

“I think that continues the line of argument that is disrespectful in the extreme, and yes, I would say sexist,” Fiorina fumed.

19. My aunt said it wasn't like a parody, it was showing
Palin like she really is and that it is the campaign that is the joke.

Oh my white, very Catholic aunt, past republican and LOVES Obama. The first campaign she has followed closely and she gets so intense. I think sh wanted to beat up Clinton, McCain and now Palin. She gets angry over every distortion or smear of Obama.

I give that background to note she didn't say about SNL showing real Palin as just a comment, it was an intense assertion. At least she wasn't mad... she has used the f word many times this season and I had never heard her swear at all.
It is pretty funny but we better make sure Obama wins just for her mental health. (And oh yes, for the health of our nation)

24. My line after I saw it was that Fey was on stage acting out a satire.
And Palin, when she goes on stage, acts like a satire.

Thus the verisimilitude of Fey's mimicry.

52. Paraphrasing Poehler's Hillary: "They need to grow a pair!"
You don't see Hillary and her camp griping about the skit--and Hillary was raked over the coals every bit as much as Sarah Palin. McCain and his cronies need to just relax and have a good laugh.

The portrayal of her was very funny and very positive. I loved the line where Tina said that all one has to do to be President is to want it and the person portraying Clinton said that obviously her problem was that she DIDN'T WANT IT enough. I almost peed my pants.

Hewlett-Packard, with the horrible Compaq merger that didn't make sense then, and still doesn't (I had tech friends who did many yrs at HP in CA and ID). The board sent her packing with about $20M after blowing up "The HP Way"! At least Meg Whitman had a clue.

9. There is a link to another great article at your link..

It took a comic to make Palin ‘transparent’
Is Tina Fey just a pawn of that vast, left wing media elite? God, I hope so, because she is one helluva funny pawn.

In the space of just a few minutes Saturday night, Fey was able to accomplish what The Times, The Post, most of the cable networks and a legion of befuddled pundits have been unable to do over these past three weeks:
De-construct Sarah Palin.

Becoming the Snow Princess (opposite Amy Poehler’s Hillary Clinton), Fey brilliantly conveyed the spirit of what Will Rogers proved more than a half century ago. Namely: the best way to expose an absurd political situation is with humor.

<snip>

You know Tina hit a nerve when that humorless doyenne and McCain mouthpiece, former CEO Carly Fiorina, whined that Fey was being “dismissive” of Sarah by trying to suggest Hillary had more substance.

<snip>

10. They can't even avoid lying about comedy sketches, fer crissakes!
Palin was played as ditzy predator and Clinton as an angry harridan. It was indisputably equal-time snarking.

The fact that Palin *is* superficial and Clinton *is* substantial -- and that Fiorina said so -- tells us more about Fiorina than it does about how "fair" it all was. (And why today's news is that Fiorina is not going to be giving so many interviews going forward.)

12. the McCain camp is sexist for picking an unqualified female to run on the ticket
it's a slap in the face to all of the more experienced women in the party.
(not that i like them, but you know what i mean)

they don't care about equality. they are using her for their gain...and she's game.
They picked her BECAUSE she is female, not because she is qualified.
That insults the rest of us women. AND Palin is letting herself be a hoar for the Right.

Where were the cries for sexism when Hillary was being raked through the coals?
PUUUUUllllllllleeeeese. Didn't matter what Hillary did, it was always the wrong thing or never good enough. Sound familiar? Reminds me of a crappy boss I once had. and he was a PIG.

18. I can only imagine what Hutchinson, Collins, and Snowe must think.
All 3 have the experience and capacity to be McCain's VP. Instead, they go with an 'empty vessel'. Why? Because she is politically correct - she's got no record that would outrage the Radical Right. If I'm a moderate Republican woman...I'm truly insulted.

But they may have the last laugh yet. I really think this Palin choice is going to end in a spectacular bust for John McCain.

37. Perhaps the Real Hillary Clinton should try to book an event with Fey
On account of her having to cancel an event because she really was being setup to appear with Palin without her knowledge.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3493999

Especially if she did it on the same day as the original event. They could have a field day lampooning Palin, and at the same time take the spotlight away from Palin. It would force the media to divide it's coverage.

If not, Palin, no doubt would be fed the spin, that whinny Hillary chickened out and was afraid to confront the great moose hunting super hockey mom. The media will gorge itself on all her cute little quips, and spend the next week or to regurgitating it all.

Instead, Hillary could throw a simultaneous event. Have Fay come on as Palin, have a big laugh.

Fay "Hillary? What are you doing here? You were supposed to go to the other event... ya know.. girl to girl.. Equals?"

Hillary "We are sooo not equal... "
"..and you're not getting my supporters. They're smarter than you think."

Fay "We'll see about that! I'll get you my pretty and all your supporters too!"

47. And Of All The People To Put Out Their On Economics
This lady's economic record was a disaster...that's why she's got all this free time to play politics with Camp Gramps. Fiorina was only there cause she had the body parts...and that the game now is that it's double OK for a repugnican woman to yell sexism because well, they're women, too.

Carly's problem was she had moments of "truthiness"...like her saying that both Gramps and Palin weren't quaified to run a company (she failed to mention that neither was she)...all while Camp Gramps fumbled a key issue in this election and fumbled badly.

I wouldn't feel sorry for Carly...I see punditry in her future...another teevee talking head.
