Palin said, 'I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can't.'"
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/09/17/palin_mayor/

Although Carney says he no longer has documentation of the expenditures, in his recollection Palin paid for the office face-lift with money from a city highway fund that was used to plow snow, grade roads and fill potholes -- essential municipal services, particularly in weather-battered Alaska.

Carney confronted Mayor Palin at a City Council hearing, and was shocked by her response.

"I braced her about it," he said. "I told her it was against the law to make such a large expenditure without the council taking a vote. She said, 'I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can't.'"

"I'll never forget it -- it's one of the few times in my life I've been speechless," Carney added. "It would have been easier for her to finesse it. She had the votes on the council by then, she controlled it. But she just pushed forward. That's Sarah. She just has no respect for rules and regulations."

1. I think it's probably a lucky thing for Palin that wolves can't fly airplanes.

Who knows, maybe flying wolves would be nice, though...

2. Do you think McCain is smart enough to be sorry he picked her?
Or is his desire to be president so strong that he can't see what is happening? I believe there are a good number of Republicans who are hoping to see him incapacitated or dead after Jan. 20, should he be elected.

40. He didn't really pick her.
She was picked for him. He wanted Holy Joe, and they said no way, take this ultra conservative dingbat. He made his deal with the devil, and now the fallout will come.

3. Wow. That is some bad stuff she was up to.
Shallow, vindictive, and determined to get whatever the hell she wants for herself. She is a disaster waiting to happen. We cannot let John McCain win...she makes Bush look like an amateur screwup.

8. Yeah but he managed to graduate from Harvard and Yale.
Which I find personally amazing, but even if he got Cs or Ds, he got through more than she did with her 6 colleges for her bachelors.

He raised two wild crazy kids but even they seem to have shaped up and turned into semi-decent citizens.

He put together a Presidential campaign while she hitched her ride.

I'd say that he is considerably more accomplished than she will ever be. SCAAAARY.

11. Don't take this as disagreement because I do think the GOP has hit a new low with Failin,
but those grades were legacy grades (would you want to fail Bush's kid?) and it does seem like one of his kids has shaped up (only 50% of them are alcoholics, which while not a sign of bad parenting, could be a sign of bad sperm or bad receptacle) and lastly, you don't think the Bush baby had any more of a part in putting together a Presidential campaign than he did in actually being the President, do you?

25. It's just one more thing
to add to the massive mountain of negatives we've got to work with.

The biggest job is to simply get the truth out there. With McCain dropping outright lies about what he stands for, and about Obama, with every campaign speech, getting the truth out has got to be the primary goal.

There is nothing this woman has done with her time in public "service" that isn't a weapon to use against her.

26. This is our warning.
As veep, or as president, Palin would do whatever she wanted until the Republican-packed Supreme Court told her she couldn't. Misappropriation of funds is probably the least of our worries.

Something like the legal justice system never bothered them in the least.

and under the impression that she's above the law.

The thing that most struck me in her interview with Charles Gibson was just how much she resembled Bush in her mannerisms-- particularly her response to sharp questioning. She seemed visibly frustrated at being expected to offer something substantial to back up her claims. Like that was beneath her.
