Texans, get off the Grid and rebuild with Solar Power
The Government and the Energy companies are letting you down again. Rebuild with solar power. Even if you don't have to rebuild, stop relying on Big Oil, Big Energy. Solar is the way to go.

1. An opportunity to get it right
Rebuilding solar would certainly be something of a silver lining to the disaster. And it would make it somewhat easier to recover after the next one.

2. we looked into converting over to solar power...but it's just not economically feasible just yet...
when/if the cost comes down appreciably, and/or the price of grid power goes up dramatically, it might become an option that we can consider.

3. Driving across Texas
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 01:10 PM by izquierdista
I drove west across the breadth of Texas earlier this summer. I could see acres and acres of rooftops to my right (southern exposure). I don't remember seeing a single solar panel (photovoltaic or water heating).

4. Most of Texas is basically off the grid ...
... since they have one to themselves ...

It seems Hawaii and Alaska have a better chance of actually living off the grid since they're kinda doing it already. Sort of.
