18. Should gay people remain pariahs in the military?

It's all so ridiculous. We know that gay people have always served. We know that there are thousands of them now. So it's not like should gay people serve in the military? (a 1993 kind of question) but now it's about being "OPEN".

So it's all about do they have a right to be themselves without fear of being fired, harassed, assaulted or isolated? Should gay people live without fear in the military? Should gay people actually feel, behave, and be treated just like everyone else takes for granted?

So anyone that votes no is condoning the concept of stay in the closet or else which is a shameful indefensible position.

We've gone from serving to serving openly in 15 years so I guess that is progress. People can't defend the indefensible forever.

10 years ago when I got out of high school I was considering joining the airforce and figured I could have just dealt with DADT..

2 elections later whereas my minority has been used as a political wedge issue to freak out the backwash has left me a little jaded...

If other gay and lesbian americans want to serve, they should just like everyone else...

But at this point in my life I just cant see myself caring enough to fight for a country that doesn't want to treat me with equal rights...
