I registered a long time ago. Barely ever posted. I've popped back in because this is about the only place I'm finding any sanity as far as this election is concerned. Although I am VERY new to DU, I have been visiting this site almost daily since the 2004 election, when I found it through Google while trying to retain some semblance of sanity -- and reading here always has the effect of calming me down as I find evidence that not everyone is either "tuned out" or going to vote for someone because they "like them."

It's kind of anti-productive in building a community to accuse everyone that is new of being a troll, although I'm sure some of that exists.

36. I've been a lurker for awhile... good place to get the news!

I used to post on a General Discussion type of forum which had all kinds of people, including ardent repugtilians, religious wackos, etc. I always felt at least I was evening out the balance, along with the other few progressives there.

Increasingly though, you had lots of Rush/Billo fans who couldn't begin a sentence without "these f**kin' libs are so stupid" coming on the boards, and it was quite obvious that a couple were right winger religious fanatics trolling with an agenda. Imagine trolling 12 hours a day to get your message across! SCARY! It got to be depressing and couldn't keep it up. Sadly, it was one of those forums where people probably could be influenced since it's athletics oriented and attracts a wide variety of readers. Now I'd just rather be with my own kind. It's healthier. :)

Now's probably not a good time to quit and I feel a little guilty. On my old forum, the professional trollers were gaining the upper hand and influencing young posters just through sheer tenacity.

Still, I urge everyone to keep an eye on MSM comment sections and post when you can. Many people from different demographics read them. I try to visit NBC, ABC, Boston Globe, NYT among others, especially news outlets with an obvious right slant (as opposed to the insidious nuanced kind) just to offer some truth balance and refute nonsense.

I kept vigil on her message boards to refute a lot of the objections posters raised. After a few days I realized the announcement had summoned out of the woodwork these so-called 'professional trollers' who had registered for the sole purpose of spamming her boards. The vitriol was depressing, but I persevered through Sunday.

in 2004 I joined up as R.A.Fuqua (my account is still open)
in 2007 I lost my job--and access to the computer that had my password stored on it and the email account that I had used to sign in to DU.


I lurked for a long time because I didn't want to start over here...tried to figure out how to get into my old account--but without access to the email account I had used to get the account it proved impossible.

Then finally a few weeks ago I joined again using a new name and e-mail account (this email account is personal so I won't lost it).

Some of us who seem "new" are actually old timers here. It was funny when I got welcome to DU posts from people who are really newbies compared to me.

But it is good that people are friendly.

154. I've actually been reading DU

for many years. I was a member once before, but one of the moderators decided I didn't belong here all because I said that I thought Ron Paul had some decent ideas. And so I was banned. It was extremely unfair, I am a Democrat, I have been almost all my voting years, except the year I voted for Bob Dole. Wasn't really my fault, it was that RED STATE NEBRASKA influence making me think I was making the right choice. My principals have changed over the years to lean more and more left with each new fuckup the GOP makes. But I am not so far left that I think they are ALL corrupt... doesn't mean I would vote for one.

I was reading at Media Matters about M$M bias against Hillary last fall and there was a link to DU. I came here and was very impressed. I spent most of my time reading in GD Primaries. What a passionate primary season here on DU! I fell in love with the place, but was a bit too scared to post. It was hot in here! Lately I have been posting more and I think my confidence is up. Mostly I read and post in GDP, but I really enjoy going into the lounge and reading the funny cute stuff people write in there.I read in the Alaska forum too sometimes, especially since McCain chose Palin. I find DU to be the whole package and think it is the best out there.

page and Top Ten. I had been arguing with right-wingers on Fark a lot and decided, "Why not go to a place where people are by-in-large, sane?" So, I did.

I am sure that I have visited several times a day for years now. I think I have been visiting since 2001.

The conversation is much, much more intelligent on this and other progressive blogs/sites. The membership also tries to hold itself to a standard regarding their actions and words.

The conservative sites always seem to sink to hate or violence. I don't find any solutions from these people.

Evolution is not just a religious arguement. New thoughts and ideas evolve our minds. The conservative sites seem to not be interested in evolving.

Evolution of our nation and Solutions to our problems. Two concepts the conservatives seem to be very afraid of.

i just left for a state college after two years of community college, and now i wont be around to hear her rant and rave all the time, so i wouldve been missing out on the new political events happening. lol. so i figured signing up here would keep me informed. plus i had thought my mom would probably get a kick out of it. and i was right. :)

182. Adding my own welcome to the Freshman DU Class of 2008. As a proud member of the 2004

class I can tell you this is a place like no other.

I linked in through something I found on Daily Kos right before the 2004 election. Started reading, then tried to register but new registrations were frozen from (IIRC) about 2 weeks before to at least 1 week after the November elections. Somebody correct this if I am misremembering.

Anyway, I got here as soon as I could!!!!

Posted more in GD and GD-P in the past 2 months than in the whole last 4 years though. Mostly gravitated to Lounge and the smaller specialized forums.

all of you: do at least read your state forum once in a while. Texas's is huge and active others have very slow traffic flow.
