Obama: Senator – what economy are you talking about?”
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 02:36 PM by bigtree
(ORLANDO, FLA.) – John McCain tried once again to assure voters that the "fundamentals" of the American economy are strong, despite the ongoing financial meltdown.

“The economic crisis is not the fault of the American people. Our workers are the most innovative, the hardest working, the best skilled, most productive, most competitive in the world, that’s the American worker,” McCain said at a town hall meeting here.

“My opponents may disagree, but those fundamentals, the American worker and their innovation, their entrepreneurship, the small business, those are the fundamentals of America and I think they’re strong.”

That sentiment was blasted by Barack Obama today.

“It’s not that I think John McCain doesn’t care what’s going on in the lives of most Americans. I just think doesn’t know. He doesn’t get what’s happening between the mountain in Sedona where he lives and the corridors of Washington where he works. Why else would he say that we’ve made great progress economically under George Bush?” Obama said today in Colorado.

“Why else would he say, today, of all days – just a few hours ago – that the fundamentals of the economy are still strong? Senator – what economy are you talking about?”

1. K & R
Gotta go after him hard.

It'd be one thing if all of McCain/Palin's lies were about Obama, people are too lazy to factcheck those. But tell someone living paycheck-to-paycheck or just lost their house and heard that more banks failed, that the economy is doing just fine, and well, they can feel that.

3. He should have added
"Remember, John McCain has more than once admitted that economics are not his strong point, that he still needs to be educated about the economy. There are only 7 weeks until the election. When is Senator McCain going to get that education?"

4. also should have added
you would think that NcCain would have learned his lesson from his earlier foray into de-regulation, the Keating Five. He was too busy negotiating bribes to study economics.

5. Here's the excerpt I thought most interesting in the article:
“Barack Obama's short career as a public servant has been defined by pessimism, defeatism, and weakness in the face of the great challenges of our time. His lack of faith in American workers may explain his willingness to raise taxes during a struggling economy, but it is no way to lead our country."
--John McCain

Riiiiiight, Johnny-Boy. And lying outright to the American people IS the way to lead our country? :eyes:

17. Barrack has to use the term, "Kitchen table economics" and put
it out where everyone understands that when you sit down at the kitchen table to figure out what you're gonna spend this week on groceries. the pie is getting smaller and smaller, at the same table you talk to your kids about going to college and trying to find a way with ever smaller scholarships, aid, and everything else related to getting ahead. Yeah, I think that would work.

I got the term from another DUer and think it fits right in.
