Avoid using P----'s and Mc----'s names
(cross-posted from GD-P)

It's a very simple fact.

People tend to vote for names they recognize.

I confess that sometimes I have done it myself when scanning over a long local ballot of choices for court clerks and judges. If I recognize a name and don't remember anything bad about the individual, I'll vote for them. Haven't you ever done the same thing?

The more we keep broadcasting the Alaska governor's name: P----, P----, P----,the more name recognition we help create. And the more votes she will get from people who recognize seeing that name.

The more bumper stickers and signs we make, the more letters to the editor that we writing, that include that woman's name, the more her name is seen among the general public. Same with Mc----.

The more opportunities we take to display Obama's and Biden's names, the more we increase their name recognition. So wear a t-shirt, get a bumper sticker, put up a lawn sign or a sign in your window. Write letters to the editor, never mentioning the opposition candidates, but prominently featuring Obama's name and/or Biden's.

Negative bumper stickers featuring Mrs. P----'s name and Mc----'s name just increase their name recognition. People will remember seeing the names but not necessarily the context,

Keep OBAMA's name prominently in the public eye. And BIDEN's name too.

I think George Lakoff has mentioned this recently along with other things, but I want DUers to focus on this one key thing.

I've spent more than 30 years in journalism and marketing, and this is stuff I learned in my journalism classes.

GOBAMA/BIDEN

2. works on the local level as well
with so many repugs running away from Bush, it makes good sense to not to refer to them by name, but as the Republican candidate.

6. Did you get the media to go along with your plan?
Because if not, I don't see how this is going to work.

I say use their names often.

McCain Palin Liars

McCain Palin Liars

McCain Palin Liars

McCain Palin Liars

McCain Palin Liars

McCain Palin Liars

(well, I think you get the picture ;))

9. The media is beyond my control
I suggested that when people write LTTEs,carry signs or post here on DU and on blogs, they avoid using the names of the Republican candidates. That kind of thing is within our control.

If you happen to carry a sign at a rally, and the tv cameras turn on you, it's always better to have a positive mention of your candidate than a negative mention of the opposing candidate.

Your point about bundling their names together with the word Liars can be effective. But a better arrangement of words for your purpose might be:

LIARS McCain Palin LIARS

This way LIARS is the word that hits people first and last.

I remember learning from past political campaigns that it's always better to use your own candidates on a bumper sticker than to name the opposition candidates on the sticker. Because that just increases the opposing candidate's name recognition.

11. Similar point made on KOS
Posted by DU's Berni McCoy

To quote KOS Blogger Jeffrey Feldman:

"If you remember one thing from the last four years of blogging about election debate rhetoric and what it takes to win, remember this: WHAT WE REPEAT IS WHAT THE PUBLIC REMEMBERS.

If we repeat 'Palin, Palin, Palin,' over and over again between now and November--whether we are saying good things or bad things, 'Palin' is what will be in the minds of the public."
