'He loved fishing with grenades'

WASHINGTON April 20. One of Saddam Hussein's favourite pastimes was fishing, but in lieu of a fishing rod he used grenades, according to a French filmmaker who caught rare footage of the Iraqi leader and his lifestyle.

The documentarian, Joel Soler, went to Iraq to make a film about architecture but ended up with a DVD titled ``Uncle Saddam'' after spending two months interviewing Mr. Hussein's designers, architects and cousins. "

" Mr. Soler also smuggled out footage of the Iraqi leader to sling a grenade into a pond.

``He loved fishing, but fishing with grenades. So when he went fishing he took a scuba diver and a grenade, and he threw the grenade into the water and suddenly you had hundreds of fish dead,'' he said. "

2. It sounds so "Beavis & Butthead."
If things were different in this life, I could almost see him and George W. sharing a boat. Blowing up stuff. Chuckling.

6. Interesting parallel
Supreme leaders more often than not enjoy the unfair killing of defenseless animals. And I am NOT talking about legitimate hunting.

Thanks.

12. A sporting chance for the prey to get away
Dynamiting fish and shooting wolves from the air are NOT legitimate.

Ask any hunter or fisherman.

14. Do Cheney's canned hunts count?
Dick would say the birds have a sporting chance to get away.

Hunters usually define a sporting chance as whatever the limit of their patience is. Has nothing to do with the animals.

11. I remember a scene from the movie "PT-109"
one of the sailors was "fishing" with a hand grenade. He explained:

"I don't like to sit around like Huckleberry Finn."
