I could understand why police officers hang on to the two dogs. It is easier to feel compassion for them than to the humans.

another Republican administration with all the horrors that would obviously bring, is preferable simply having to do with some sort of emotional decision relating to Palin.

That type of thinking is a recipe for massive failure. It's like betting your life that a twelve will come up on the dice before seven does. The seawall is 16' high and the predicted surge is 20'.
They will die unless the prediction turns out to wrong. Those are terrible odds and anyone with a half of a brain would know that.

of the disaster area.

On a matter of less human drama, the only wild Whooping Cranes in the World summer in the Galveston area. It's quite possible that they will be totally exterminated by the storm. Several years ago the Eastern flock was killed in the Louisiana area by a hurricane.

The birds are capable of flying out of the storm area but whether they will know to do that remains a question.

False alarm: The Western Migration Whooping Cranes are still up in British Columbia. They won't migrate to Texas until October.

5. Poor people always try to delay what they can't afford.

And their kids often don't even know that's what is happening.

My mom took me to two doctors hoping someone would tell her I didn't have appendicitis.

Others were plucked from a pickup that did not look like a clunker. Again, if you can afford one I don't know how poor you are.
