I just watched Charlie Gibson's interview of the GOP's pick to be VP on ABC's Nightline.
Apparently, ABC pre-taped this thing and will be dragging it out over a few nights (thank FSM that Dr. Colbert is on vacation otherwise I couldn't see it). It is edited and so far it has taken place both in some kind of hunting lodge and outside next to the pipeline.
The initial reaction by the greater internets population (as seen by the brave DUers who ventured into Freeperland) was a mix of shock and anger. I knew this before watching, but that is not how I see the GOP's eventual spin on it.
For me, however, the most memorable thing about the interview was her volume, which is what I think the GOP will desperately latch onto. Two other major oddities stuck out for me and the first one was her use of a verbal crutch: she repeated his name over and over like as if she was selling him a timeshare. The other was her cadence; she sounded more like someone who had memorized her lines, not someone who was answering questions. It also made her sound like she was trying harder to convince herself about what she was trying to provide an answer to his questions.
If my assessment is correct, the GOP will use her "eager-to-answer-as-quickly-and-loudly-as-possible" replies as an excuse to describe her demeanor instead of the content of her answers. They will say she's resolute and repeat the old tired lies about her being "strong" and whatever.
One reason the GOP insisted it be edited (you know they did) was to put her worst answers out first and then leak the "better" performances in later "episodes". That way they get out all the bad crap on the first day and by the third (she gets three days, right?) all the pundits who said she did poorly can "be impressed" by how much better she got! Thus creating what TV people call a "story arc" and allow the viewers at hope to follow along with their favorite pundit and come to love her just like they did.
Another reason may have been to consider feedback from webtubes such as Freeperland and DU.
Anyway, that's my take.
