Could I ever vote for a Republican ticket? (or vice versa)
I was just reading some other posts about 'die hards' this and 'die hards' that and 'not listening to reason' and thought I'd turn the mirror on myself and ask HOW COULD I possibly vote for a Republican Ticket.

First off, the Republican Party would have to fully disavow and ostracize any and all members of the PNAC and Karl Rove ideology.

Second, the GOP would have to get out of bed with the fundamentalist / evangelicals and promote the general welfare of each individual, not each 'believer'.

Thirdly, the members of the GOP would have to be responsible to the US public and not the party. Members would stand up against lies and half-truths and expose their own leaders of conspiracy and wrongdoing instead of making excuses and going-along for the sake of political posturing.

Finally, it would rely on the platform and the individuals who RAN IN THE PRIMARIES that gave us MONTHS of insight into who they are, what they are about, and where they would take the country. I WILL NOT support a DIVISIONIST in EITHER party. Neither will I trust anyone who can't remember what they said or did two months or two years ago when damming an opponent.

I WILL NEVER expect perfection of a politician. I will never expect to agree 100% with all decisions and policies made by a politician I support. But I DO expect a Politician to have valid and understandable reasons for disagreeing with a position I have, and not just tell me it's because I AM STUPID.

So could I vote for a Republican ticket?

Let's take care of number #1 and #2 first, and then I'll think about it again.

1. I know someone who responded with this when asked if he would ever vote for a Republican:
"I'd rather chew the genital warts off a crack whore than vote for a f*cking Republican!"

4. I did vote for Howard Baker, when he was in the Senate. Incidentally, Everett Dirksen's
son in law, until his wife died.

yeah I also voted for Lamar Alexander for Governor but if you had seen the POS the Dems put up against him you would have too.

a crooked governor

and a crooked businessman.

5. There's nothing inherently wrong with Republicans....
but it's no longer our grandfather's Republican Party. As a lad and mascot of the Young Republicans I remember going to a rally at the Taylor County Fair and hearing the words of the most vile minded individual ever born to campaign for president. His name was Goldwater and considering that much of what he believed would be considered left of BO/Biden's platform today it gives an indication of where the party's and particularly the Republican party has degenerated to.

It's a disgrace that in our great country we are given but two choices and if interests can buy both choices then our limited choice becomes no choice at all....except in our minds.

I'm on the hunt for blue dogs tonight, want to help?

7. oh yeah Goldwater was a flamin liberal compared to today's Republican party. I loved Nelson
Rockefeller and if he had gotten the nomination in 1968 instead of Nixon, I might have voted for him instead of Humphrey ..since I didn't have Bobby anymore. Nelson would be a Democrat in today's world, I think.

Goldwater's positions in the campaign were atrocious, and he scared the daylights out of me. I was 16 that year so I don't remember a lot but I do know that down the road he was highly respected by his colleagues.

because I lived in Kentucky.

I am embarrassed to say I was just going to school. Did vote though

6. Lincoln was a Republican.

The parties would need to change a lot before the Republicans were the good guys again, but I certainly wouldn't rule out that being the case in 50 or 100 years.

I would never support the policies of the modern Republican party, though.
