Obama Camp Calls McCain 'Sex Ed.' Ad "Shameful and Perverse"

McCain Ad Hits Obama on Sex Education:
http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2008/09/09/mccain-ad-barack-obama-wrong-on-education-wrong-for-your-family/

The John Mccain campaign released a new television ad Tuesday aggressively going after Barack Obama, claiming he supports teaching "comprehensive sex education to kindergartners."

Here is the transcript:

Education Week says Obama "hasn't made a significant mark on education".
That he's "elusive" on accountability.
A "staunch defender of the existing public school monopoly".
Obama's one accomplishment?
Legislation to teach "comprehensive sex education" to kindergartners.
Learning about sex before learning to read?
Barack Obama.
Wrong on education. Wrong for your family.

Here is the response to McCain's newest ad from Barack Obama's campaign spokesman Bill Burton: http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2008/09/09/obama-camp-new-mccain-ad-shameful/

"It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls – a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds. Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn’t define what honor was. Now we know why."

5. Why can't we come up with similar ads against McCain?
Why is it always them saying outrageous crap about us (some of which sticks, mind you)? Why can't we play that game? Goodness knows there's probably plenty of ammo.

6. Well, the spokesman made a good statement
but they better make an ad out of it if they want to reach the people who will be seeing McCain's commercial.

Now I'm climbing on the bandwagon asking Obama to go after the jugular. Get MAD, O! This is beyond despicable.

12. He needs to get angry
The ad is painting Obama as a pervert. If Obama doesn't get angry and attack back, he will probably lose because he will seem weak. People won't vote for a commander who appears too timid (see Dukakis) The attack shouldn't come from a campaign spokesperson. It should come from Obama himself and it should be direct.

If Obama shrugs off this style of attack on him and tries to take the high road, I don't have high hopes for the outcome.

They have crossed a line with this. They should not be rewarded with anything other than utter disdain!

10. McCain needs to be publicly whipped for that ad!

It's an Illinois Senate Bill that addresses what is already in place, but supports continuing and expanding the content knowledge as appropriate to grade level.

Kindergarten level, no doubt, is about Stranger Danger, and personal hygiene such as brushing teeth, covering mouth when coughing, using tissues when sneezing, washing hands before eating and after using the restroom.

What the fuck is wrong with the McCain Camp?
What is wrong is that they want Obama to be a THREAT as a SEXUAL TERRORIST!

Somebody, please, slam and verbally flog McCain in public.
This is way below the mud-slinging belt line. :grr:  :grr:

13. TPM’s Greg Sargent finds the charge “false” and “pernicious.”
He cites this passage from the bill, as circulated by McCain’s staff:

“Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV.”

Sargent notes that Obama camp’s explanation that the bill “would simply add instruction on disease prevention to already existing Illinois sex-ed standards.”
