Hold on to those breakfasts: "Women turn out to see Palin in Wisconsin, Michigan "
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 09:36 AM by SemiCharmedQuark
Clutching signs with messages such as “Girl Power” and “Sarah Is My American Idol,” moms and their daughters lined the barricades just outside The Chocolate Shop in Cedarburg, Wisconsin that served as the backdrop for the rally.

...
Snip

“She's a real woman, she's a real feminist but she's not strident—she's like us,” said Hauswirth, a middle-aged mother who didn’t offer her age. “She’s strong, powerful and opinionated, all the things a women should be while still retaining her femininity, her womanhood.”

...

But Palin, with her out-of-nowhere debut, compelling personal story and first-rate convention speech, has injected new life into the GOP and piqued the curiosity of voters who are only mildly interested in politics.

...

McCain took the lead in delivering the re-tooled message, emphasizing the against-the-grain tendencies he shared with a woman who only became governor after toppling an incumbent governor and institution in Alaska politics.“Send a team of mavericks who aren’t afraid to go to Washington and break some china,” he said in Michigan.

...

As for the men in the audience, they were excited to see Palin in person, too, if for different reasons.“She’s good-looking,” exclaimed Scott Kennison, drawing playful rolls of the eyes from the women surrounding him in Cedarburg.

14. I saw a snippet of that yesterday on tv. That place is
whiter than an Alaskan glacier. Seems like they are only campaigning in their strongholds. Someone on here suggested yesterday that Obama stick it to them by holding a townhall in Wasilla. Now that would be a headline.

6. Their reaction makes a great case for affirmative action
If just putting a woman with no real qualifications in the VP nominee position is enough to inspire women young and old to im higher, then the Republicans ought to be delighted with making sure qualified women are able to get into positions of authority everywhere!

thought they had a shot in PA and chimp made a campaign appearance in the Scranton area. My uncle who lives there said the locals all hate Bush and no one would think of going to see him. So they bussed people in from someplace else for the cameras and then bussed them out again. That area went very heavily for Kerry.

35. I'm sure they were all contacted by McCain's campaign...
People don't show up with homemade signs unless they've been asked to by a campaign or political party. I don't see anything wrong with calling supporters to show up for a candidate; I've called people to do it, and I've done it myself. It's the absence of full disclosure by the media that's wrong and in bad taste.

20. It's BAD news
I have been seeing Women jump on the Sarah Palin Bandwagon in Ohio, the SAME Women that were voting Democratic and now are going crazy over a Woman being VP.
It is scareing the hell out of me because Ohio is a very important State and if it is happening in all of these towns in Ohio I am SURE it is happening all over America.
Isn't there any way to stop this defection ? maybe drop Biden and place Hillary as VP ? something needs to be done to get these Dem Women BACK to the Dem side, but what ?

19. Get these women a dictionary please! They need to look up the term "FEMINIST"
“She's a real woman, she's a real feminist but she's not strident—she's like us,” said Hauswirth, a middle-aged mother who didn’t offer her age. “She’s strong, powerful and opinionated, all the things a women should be while still retaining her femininity, her womanhood.”

(Not sure yet how to make those fancy quote boxes...sorry)

Being strong, powerful and opinionated does not make one a feminist, especially when the opinions one so strongly and powerfully aspouses actually denigrate women!!!!!!

I am reminded of when the Spice Girls came out with all that "Girl Power" stuff and people called them feminists. Their message was actually about using their sexuality to manipulate men. This is NOT feminism, at least not the kind I was taught about.

22. I used to work in Cedarburg. It's about as smalltown as you get and lilly white of course.
All I can say is, I am glad I don't work or live in Wisconsin anymore. I actually get to talk politics with like-minded people now but when I was in Wisconsin, I endured coworkers wearing Bush baseball caps and having his picture plastered at their work stations (of course the pics did come down and the hats came off a little over a year ago--but still...)

As for the young men in Cedarburg proclaiming Palin "good looking"--well, some of the women in Wisconsin look like their Russian "sisters" so it's not surprising that these young men say that.

Finally, Wisconsin was a battleground last election. They caged votes, arrested and criminalized democrats claiming that they engaged in voter fraud, etc. with very little evidence. I was duped when I "registered" to vote with one of those clip-board-wielding people stationed outside a department store. It turned out that the information that I gave them was never sent in to register me. There were teams of people out to make people believe that they registered making it more difficult to vote when they realized that they weren't actually registered as election time neared.

Hope the women are better looking in the state you have moved to :eyes:

FYI Wisconsin has always been known for having clean elections, and many of us were alarmed by the past 2 pres. elections. We were a battleground state alright (like Iowa, New Mexico, and many others that didn't make the news as Ohio and Florida did), where the closeness of the election was "enhanced" by a great discrepancy between exit polls and final vote counts, thanks to Diebold, Sequoya and ESS voting machines and lying MSM. The voter harassment / disenfranchisement issue you speak of is new to me and must have been a rather isolated problem. Do you have a link to back this up?

Want to add - if you wanted to talk politics with people of like mind, you would have found good company in Madison, Milwaukee, and many other towns - heck, maybe even in Cedarburg, had you gotten around a little more :eyes:

The women who are there think feminism is means the candidate with the double x chromosome. They have no idea what real feminists are and most of them have bashed Hillary for showing the same amount of ambition and gumption. They are the same women who blame Hillary because Bill cheated on her.
