Cindy McCain's "hat" remark during Hurricane Gustav still bothers me.
Can't get it out of my head --

"We all need to take off our Republican hats now and put on our American hats...."

This statement really makes me wonder if, in the bubble-wrapped world of Republicans, they really regard themselves as something other than Americans... why is a "Republican hat" different than an "American hat." And these were prepared remarks from what I could see, not a spontaneous gaffe.

It may seem a small thing, but in the context of the Republican's uber-patriotism (USA! USA!), it seemed an oddly-constructed choice of words.

1. Unintended truth
Repubs aren't about country first, they're about party first (or faith first, if they have one, then party, then country). Barbie McSame only acknowledged the truth.

2. Tend to agree. And you know, Michelle Obama would be crucified for saying something similar. nt

5. Quiet, I noticed that too and thought it a terribly odd thing to say.

I didn't get the sense that it was a prepared remark, but considered the similarity between Cindy and the few "BIG" Repugs here in my little town.

Edited to add: "Money First" - yeah, that's them!
