to put food on the table, etc.

And the crowd erupted with the USA, USA, USA(!) chants.

What the f*&k are they thinking? Do they realize that comes across as INSANE? Are they proud that conditions in the USA(!) are so bad for so many? WHY would they cheer at that moment?

I have to think that a lot of low-info voters watching the speech were very puzzled too. At least I hope they were.

EDIT: Also, didn't McCain come off as really creepy when he leaned in and said (regarding Palin, paraphrase) 'I can't wait to introduce her to Washington'. Not just the way he leaned in, but the way he said it...

17. Uniquely American, isn't it?
What an out-of-touch asshole. And now we see why, no surprise, the entire party is full of 'em.

6. Well, if that's the case, yes, it looks TERRIBLE for them. I hope the Daily Show pounces on this...
And I hope there's a youtube clip of it. If there is, let's make it viral.

5. They're happy as long as the USA is number one at something.
If that something happens to be lack of healthcare, education, or opportunity among Western nations, they don't care because "We're Number 1! We're Number 1!"

15. Interesting, and makes more sense.
It's still their own fault, though - if they don't show the disruptors (and the GOP won't go off script for ANYTHING this convention), it sure looks like their rank and file were cheering a crappy economy.

14. I had the exact same reaction re: the economic asides he made...
No one else mentioned it. It honestly sounded like the crowd were trying to shut him up or drown him out about the economy. Or maybe they're all rich and the economy is "just fine, thanks!" It was really bizarre. I know it turned me right off. You don't have to be too smart to see what's going on with the economy, but these people were either 1) uninterested or 2) wanted to avoid it, neither of which should do them any good with voters.

Seriously - I'm glad I wasn't hearing things and someone else noticed it!
