Says Diddy: "Attention John McCain, attention John McCain, my name is Diddy…I had to check in with you to tell you that you are bugging the f--- out. I don't even understand what planet you're on right now.! This is the job to be the leader of the free world.

"Ok," Diddy continues, "No disrespect. I love you. I want you to live to be 110, but things happen. What if, God forbid, you got a running mate, you become president -- Alaska? Alaska? Alaska? Alaska? Come on, man. I don’t know if there's any black people in Alaska.

"John, like, come on!" Diddy entreaties. "Sarah Palin? Yo, if you really think that we're gonna let you win this election with these, like, crazy, these crazy decisions that you're making, you're buggin'. "

1. Well there are "black people" in Alaska...

After the Civil War, many of the black men who migrated to Alaska were seafarers who worked in the whaling and fur trade in the North Pacific and who remained to take up residence in the Alaska territory. The discovery of gold brought more blacks to Alaska. For four years, the one hundred fifty-eight black members of Company L, 24th Infantry, US Army were stationed at Dyea and Skagway to preserve law and order and to show the flag. Some members stayed.

World War II brought an influx of blacks to Alaska as the military began work on the Alaska Highway and to fortify Alaska. Black military engineers and port battalions were assigned to Alaska. More than 3,000 black engineers worked on the Alaska Highway. Black battalions were also assigned to the Aleutian Islands during the Aleutian campaign.

Since statehood, many blacks in Alaska have been associated with the military. They have been stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Fort Richardson (Anchorage), Eielson Air Force base, Fort Wainwright (Fairbanks), Fort Greely (Delta Junction) or with the Coast Guard in Juneau, Ketchikan or Kodiak. Many members of the military select Alaska as their place of permanent residence and choose to remain in the state when retiring. Over the years, the African-American population levels have fluctuated with the number of military personnel assigned to each base in Alaska.

2. Yes, there are black people in Alaska

and many other colors, too. For Diddy's information, Anchorage is now a 50-50 city. 50% of the students in our school district are minorities. Diddy needs to get his facts straight before he starts spouting this kind of racist talk.

And claiming the lack of crackheads and crime in Alaska (not sure if that is also way out there) with the "lack" of black people in the same sentence is certainly not very flattering to black americans. I'm guessing most people either bought his stupid little video hook line and sinker or were, like me, grossly offended by it.



And last I checked, the country is in need of some good policies all around, not black policies. I don't even know what that means. Can anyone tell me what "black policies" are? I would be happy for a coherent set of policies at all, let alone individual groups of policies based on skin tone. I thought we were trying to move beyond that type of political action?

5. Sadly, there are a ton of crackheads and meth heads

in Alaska, I know from personal experience. In fact, the Matanuska-Valley, Sarah's home turf, has been infested with meth labs for years. And also very sadly we have the highest per capita rate of sexual assaults (both adult and against children) in the country. Maybe Diddy doesn't consider rape to be a crime, but I do.

I just wish that when people supporting Obama in the public eye say things, they would try a little harder to say coherent, true things. Videos like Puff Daddy's are not helpful.
